Brownells mags good for Mil usage? (NSN, etc)

LT Son headed to an serious Army course where he needs a bunch of issue mags.

If he can't get them issued via CIF, was thinking about the Brownell mags.

Supposedly they are a GI supplier, and are described as issue, with NSN.

His other option is used ex-gi, but they look pretty beat up.

Can anyone confirm these are accepted as issue gear by the Army? (Especially notoriously picky instructors?) :-)

Can't imagine black hats checking floor plates and NSN's as long as they were not magpul, etc.

If he NEEDS them, they will be issued.

You'd think that would be the case, but for officers it's not apparently. As an example, getting ready for RS is fairly expensive due to all the mandatory non-TA-50 gear.

For officers it's really only their TA-50 that is issued. That and weapons as needed. I'd have to think mags are available, but there are 7 required on the packing list for layout, etc.

Is it for RS or something else, if you don't mind me asking? And is a unit sending him or is he going right after BOLC or something similar? Mags are not a CIF issue item, they are issued by the unit (at least in every instance that I've seen). Ranger is pretty expensive to prep for from what I hear, I know of a few guys that spent several hundred dollars getting everything together. If it is for that, anything aluminum GI style mag is fine. For something with more live-fire involved, personally, I don't have a ton of faith in my Brownells AR mags. Granted, its a small sample size of 2-4 and they have Magpul Ranger plates which some have said decrease reliability in GI mags, but still, worth noting. I believe there is a thread on here about their functionality.

I didn't take into consideration, training en route, either way these should be issued and signed for.

Knowing the school would be helpful, and I could possibly put your son in touch with a mentor.

Hes an LT? I have no clue as to what course you could be talking about that would require a "Bunch of mags"

If you gave a little more information we would be able to provide better input. And brownells magazines are issued.

Thanks all, you've largely answered the question.

I don't want to get into too many specifics in the forum, he's trying to confirm via cadre if they will be issued mags. But if not, it sounds like the Brownells may be a reasonable backup plan. We'd rather have Okay/NHMTG, but it's not clear if the commercial offerings have NSN's, etc.

I'll respond to some of the other questions via PM. Thanks!

I've got 20 Brownells 30 rounders with SS springs and Magpul followers at home, I can check the plates to see if they have a NSN on them if you'd like tonight after work (I'm a bit ashamed to admit that I've never actually checked the floorplates before).

My Brownells mags in my closet at work just say "Brownells" and below that "Montezuma, IA USA" These are Aluminum with tan and green followers, if that makes a difference.
