    The chart suggested that for pistols / personal use (as opposed to club use) to select 1/4" plates.

    I guess personal use varies but I wouldn't get anything thinner than 3/8" AR plate. 1/4" may be OK for rimfire bu expect it to warp after a steady diet of combat calibers.

    Another thing to consider too, for general club use by "less skilled shooters??" is the grade of steel of the stand. Ours really take a pounding from .223's.
