Did I mess up buying my lower?

Hello, I ordered a blem lower from PSA to maybe do a pistol build with and Haven't received it yet. I thought I would be good to go but then in a 300blk thread someone was talking about the lower being marked and registered as a pistol. From another thread awhile back I read marked or not marked as a pistol doesn't matter. I'm a little confused. When does it get registered as a pistol? When built at PSA or when I pick it up from the gun store and do the transfer? If at the gun store I'm still good right? Tell them it will be a pistol and it is registered as such? Thanks.

Someone else may be better able to clarify this, but you shouldn't have to register a lower with a pistol designation.

That is unless you leave in state wherein ones pistols are registered to their ccw permit.

Registration may be the wrong term as I got that from the other thread. I'm in TN and to my knowledge pistols aren't linked to your permit. I've never been asked about any guns when getting or renewing mine. As far as I know I just fill out the 4473 do the NICS check and I'm done. I was looking at the form online and I guess it just gets marked as a handgun/pistol in the designated areas on the form 4473 and I'm good to go?

I believe the PSA lowers are registered as "other". Registration doesn't change to pistol or rifle, you can do what you want with it. The only thing you can't do legally is make a registered "rifle" lower into a pistol.

    Registered as:
    Other - Rifle or Pistol
    Pistol - Rifle or Pistol
    Rifle - Rifle Only

I read the same thread and assumed the writer lived where pistols had to be registered.
I recently bought a RRA stripped lower to do a pistol .300blk build and it was transferred on the 4473 as other. In Louisiana.

I'm not 100% on this but if it's a transferred as a pistol it stays as a pistol unless you make it a rifle and it's transferred as a rifle... is this a stripped lower?

Once a rifle always a rifle.

Once a rifle always a rifle or Made into an SBR. You can turn a pistol into a rifle anytime you want. Just not rifle back into a pistol.

OP in TN when it is transferred from the dealer to you on the 4473 it will be transferred as "other" which means you are ok the build it into pistol configuration or rifle. The only time it is considered a pistol is if it is a complete pistol lower. Or a rifle if it is a complete rifle lower If it is a stripped lower, then it is other.

    This is correct.
