HK Steel magazines are both extremely more expensive than USGI magazines and they also perform worse in every way. Does anyone else make a steel magazine thats worthwhile? I havent seen one. I have USGI magazines that have been in service longer than I have that still feed fine. Compare that to H&Ks that have lasted as little as 1000 rounds before they quit functioning.

Why a steel magazine over a perfectly good USGI aluminum one? Or a PMAG?

Exactly. And steel mags dent as well so it's not they are robust. People need to move on and realize they are disposable items and buy accordingly.

The Israeli-made E-Lander steel mags are still being sold. The early ones were hit-or-miss in many guns but the latest generation seem to be working well. Cons: They're rather heavy, the finish is slippery, and they seem to have an unusually strong spring.

Once upon a time I suppose. I've recently worked with several agencies who use them on their 416s without any issue and pmags were banned with said units because it was "possible" to wiggle a mag out. Most guys take care of their kit and don't need anything more than USGI mags so with all that said PMags work great for 95% of us and think USGI mags fit that same criteria.

No, the problem was interior dimensions of HK416 receivers not being compatible with PMAG's hence the Magpul E-MAG.

Yes I'm aware, the MR/HK416 have longer magazine wells to keep people from gabbing the magazine while shooting and potentially causing a failure. Pmag Gen1/2 will not work with the HK but M3s will. The Emags are the same in exterior diameter from the base of the feed lip all the way down and I have several of those too. I'm agreeing with you guys about the USGI and Pmags being a better option but like to make sure that old info isn't confused with recent success.

    I'm familiar with H&K:

That's a HK416 with a High reliability mag the guys would shoot often and waaaaaayyyyy more than 1000rds without issues.

When I said steel I was meaning either steel or aluminum. The weight I'm not really concerned about. I was wanting to try some for something different but I want to make sure I'm buying quality too. For some reason every time I drop a pmag I'm scared it's going to break, it hasn't happened yet but I'm still nervous about it.

If you are asking this question, just remove all doubt and buy a big box of surefeed/OKAY aluminum GI's and be done with it. The lancer polymers are a good choice as well. Lots of whats the best magazine threads lately, I concluded OKAY mags from those threads.

That is a matter of opinion. Diversify and buy some of the following!

    Surefeed/OKAY/NHTMG

    D&H

    Lancer

    Magpul
