We offer a 100% guarantee on our stuff. I don't know of anyone that has one of our carrier groups who wasn't impressed. It is literally a MILSPEC BCG with the addition of NP3. Every single carbine and upper we have sold in the last 18 months has that BCG and that includes all of our LE contract stuff.

This^^ We have sold thousands of BCG's with the NP3 and had nothing but positive reviews. Here are the details, 8620 Carrier, properly staked key with Grade 8 fasteners. Carpenter 158 Bolt, HP/MPI tested, shot peened and a tool steel extractor. Black insert and Sprinco 5 coil extractor spring (no need for the band aid o-ring even on sbr's) We test fire every group before it ships to ensure function.

My gold standard is a LMT Enhanced BCG, carrier NP3 coated, bolt headspaced to the barrel.

But for commonly available BCGs, Sionics NP3 is the only one I buy. Nothing wrong with phosphate; NP3 is simply better. And Sionics simply gets everything else right. I would put Colt/LMT/BCM right behind it as my second choice.

I forgot to mention, coatings are a nice addition to a good bolt. #1 priority is a good, milspec bolt. A bcm bolt beats a subpar bolt with great coating. Sionics definately did it right.

I'll throw my vote in for the following BCGs:

    - SIONICS
    - BCM
    - LMT
    - Colt

However, I'm considering one of the Toolcrafts from WCArmory to keep around as a spare.

If I were in this situation I would buy a JP BCG and bolt. I would use a set of gauges on the new bolt & existing barrel before I fired the new configuration. I haven't always used head spacing gauges. I started using head spacing gauges when I witnessed someone test firing a rifle that wasn't head spaced and things went bad. If you had seen the result you would always use them as well.

I'll be looking into this a lot more once Christmas is over. Which gauges would you recommend?

Was this an AR? A mil weapon? I've never had a headspace issue or heard of any issues in any reputably made ARs. I do have a headspace gauge, but only break it out on very high round count barrels.

The only gage I recommend is the US MIL 5.56 Field Gage or the Colt one sold by Brownells.
