    A5....maybe?

I am curently saving up for a Bravo lower. It comes with a staked standard carbine receiver extension. I am debating about switching to an A5 tube after reading good things about it on here. If I read correctly, the A5 is a good option due to its flexibility over different gas sytems and barrel lengths. Irrelevant in my case as my upper has a DD 16" middy barrel and I won't be doing upper swaps.

However, I read that the A5 would be smoother(due to the rifle spring) but is there a difference in terms of it being softer on standard wear and tear of parts vs the carbine tube? Newb question I know but I would appreciate it if someone could could answer this for me.

There is an extensive A5 thread, with lots of info.

Honestly, the A5 is my current favorite set-up, and I have a couple of spares to finish future projects.

That said, you're not going to wear anything out significantly faster with a carbine RE than with an A5 set-up with a properly gassed upper. If this is going to be a complete Bravo lower, you would be well served by just leaving the stock staked carbine RE in place and putting that money towards a quality red dot, mags, or ammo to run the gun.

I bought a BCM factory lower a while back and it had an A5 system on it a few days later. As far as I'm concerned there's no reason not to use it.

DD is often considered over gassed so it may make more of a difference there then with some other uppers. Not sure how measurable it would be though.

Give me a good argument as to why a properly weighted and sprung A5 type system would not be prefered in terms of function over a carbine type action system for an application?

I can tell from experience that an A5 is not going to do much, if anything to a 16" DD mid. They're gassed pretty generously, but nothing crazy that's going to cause malfunctions or anything.

I like the A5 system, and think it really is a better mousetrap, but after using the A5 for the past five years, along with proper carbine setups, on properly gassed barrels, I don't think it really offers any tangible benefit to my uppers.

Just a side note, if you buy directly from Bravo, you can order it with an A5 installed.
