It's amazing how some of those early FH's look very similar to the AAC and Smith Vortex FH prongs of today.
I am interested to know if the FP retainer in this gun is identical to the one KNS produces currently?
I always use the KNS ones in all of my BCG's. I'll never use a crappy cotter pin type again...

Now that is old school cool. Gives me flash backs to the old SWAT tv show that I watched as a kid.

That is a masterpiece of history. The value of that will only go up, and its a very nice piece to discuss.

Anyone else get really mixed feelings when you see Templar has started a new thread? You want to see what incredible find he is made, yet you know you will likely be jealous/envious for days to come.

That's very nice. I still have two of the several SP-1's I purchased back in the '70's (a rifle and carbine) but had done some updating over the years (A2 handguards and FA uppers). They're in the back of the safe these days, but every once in a while I look. The rifle was purchased from a Colt machinery salesman who was given the gun by someone at "home office" with no paperwork, etc. As nice and nostaligc as they are, I'll still take my current builds.

The only good thing about them was the cost. At the time, I even purchased a SF M-16A1 Carbine for $313...but that dates me a little.

It's kinda funny, with all the parts that wear and break in the AR, such as the extractor, ejector spring, and hammer spring, all of which I have seen break and wear out numerous times, people seldomly refer to them as "crappy", whereas the firing pin retaining pin, of which I have never seen a single failure that was not user induced (not to imply that it doesn't happen), suddenly become "crappy" because a company turns out a copy of a failed part.

Just a bit interesting to me.
