The only way you can get a 9MM AR/M16 to run close to 100% is to actually find what type of ammo it likes. Federal 9BP was a great round because it was a hollow point and fed well in Colt 9MM sub guns. It was not the best performing ammo though. You would need a high quality drop in mag well which would require you to remove the bolt release every time you wanted to switch it out to and from 5.56. The best option I could think of would cost you a bit of cash and someone who knows their way around a mill.
We recently built this PDW and put a lot of time modifying the 9MM BCG to work in this stock set up. The 9MM BCG is designed to work with any hammer so this Geissele trigger would not have to be switched out. We sell this rifle for $1900 and it includes the 5.56 BCG. You would need a 5.56 upper and that's it....
