It's a small sample size, but my experience with the elw profile and a suppressor is not great regarding POI change.

My 18" Noveske SPR barrel POI moves down 1 moa when I attach my Saker.

My BCM standard 11.5" POI moves down 2 moa.

My BCM standard 16" middy POI moves down 2 moa.

My BCM 14.5" ELW POI moves down 6.5 moa.

All have concentric mounts. I even sent the 14.5 back to BCM and they verified the concentricity of the shoulder and threads. Also swapped muzzle devices with my other barrels.

I realize the government profile isn't ideal, but for my suppressed use, it seems to be better than the ELW. The Noveske SPR profile is fairly heavy, with only a slight taper across the full length. I can only assume this is why it has such little POI change despite being the longest barrel.

Thinner the barrel, the more deflection there is. Simple physics.
I love Noveskes medium profiles on their short barrels.
ELW 11.5 would be wonderful, without a can.

So, some say ELW is more rigid, and others not so much...

More rigid than what? A pencil profile with no taper?
Of course it's more rigid. There's more metal. More metal = more rigidity.
Still doesn't change the fact that if you hang something off (somewhat heavy) the front of a thin-pro barrel, it will bend and whip. A mm or 2 means many, 100yds away.

"A lot of money for a rifle that won't be used too often. Between the suppressor and the tax stamp, just curious as to why an 11.5" over a standard M4 or Mid? Done and done.

Is it the look? Bragging rights? Just curious"

Already have a mid-length 16" BCM complete rifle, and yes part of it is bragging rights and the look - I will be the first to admit that. However, another part is I am wanting to start a nice rifle collection and spend more time shooting as my children get a little older. I am in the process of purchasing some farm land and will have a section of that land dedicated to shooting.

Also, thank you everyone for quick replies.

There seems to be a 50/50 split on whether the barrel will be a good setup with the can. Are you running suppressed?

He states it will be primarily suppressed.

I have the same uppers (2) that I run suppressed 100% of the time. I zeroed suppressed and then noted the POI change when UNsuppressed for reference. I saw about a 2moa difference.

While I'm glad I know my POI change, if zeroed and run 100% suppressed is POI change *really* that critical provided you know what it is?

    Just thinking out loud....

What's better, a G19 or a G17? There is not an easy answer unless you set requirements.

If you are mainly running suppressed, why do you care about POI shift?

If you decide you care about POI shift, build an 11.5 HBAR upper that wil be a heavy beast, then add a can and you will tire out much quicker than a lightweight upper.

I shoot a LW-ish profile 11.5 suppressed and love it. I think POI shift was 2 or 3 moa. But again, suppressor+optic+flashlight and its still handy. And I built something similar to the BCM upper you linked.

The real question is this: If you ask an expert to build you an 11.5" barrel that weighs 16-18 oz with least POI shift, what profile would they choose?

I believe the answer is something similar to the ELW continuous taper. More mass at the root/chamber side to fight bending and less mass at the muzzle end.

EDIT: Removed the word rigid. I imagine if you asked a similar question and said you wanted the most accurate 11.5" barrel, the profile might be different to deal with whip. I don't know.

There was a thread that discussed why the Government Profile was designed with the light parts under the handguard and heavy towards the muzzle. I need to go back and see what was said.

    Perhaps.
But I wasn't asking you, I was asking him.
