The first time I saw this I thought it was exactly that - paint/sheet rock from falling against a wall - thats what it looks like!

But it's not, it keeps growing back and hasn't lived outside of my VERY DRY cabinet.

I really do think it's a salt - was hoping someone in the business would be along to explain if there is a reaction from treating the steel that could result in this.

I wiped some of it earlier today to check consistency and will check later to see if it's come back already. Will snap another pic.

Will also reach out to the manufacturer again tomorrow. More curious for just an explanation and if they've seen this before.

Huh. I have that comp on a rifle, and haven't seen anything like it. Weird, and a little creepy.

If it doesn't go away, I'd consider a new comp (BCM might even replace it for free if it's a defective phosphate finish or something.)

Yeah its interesting - like I've said before I think I've owned about 5 bcm comps over the last 2 years and never seen this. We will see.

If there is nothing inherently wrong and its just cosmetic I'm fine with my fuzzy friend.

Nah....send it to BCM, they'll take care of it. If they don't let us know, and we'll all raise hell with them.

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

The last thing I want to do is hurt you,
but it's still on my list.
