I'm beginning to lean in the direction of thinking that if I truly want an AR that is as "close to the real thing" as possible, I should go with a Colt LE6920, which is, as far as I can tell at this point, the closest thing to today's military M4 as possible.

    Advice?
    Thoughts?
    Suggestions?

    Thanks.
In my opinion if you want a rifle now thats "mil spec" go colt.

Or think about what you want and research what parts and mods will do it

The colt is very very basic.

its the economy car of the ar world, while giving a true quality rifle

It will work but if you want more accuracy or easier cleaning go more custom

    Follow up....

I just bought an AR-15A3...I know...not as close to the real thing as a 6920, but ....

I wanted the heavy barrel with the 1:9 twist.
And, I got it for $861, shipped.

    So...Merry Christmas to me.

Your reply makes little sense. Not sure why you would pin and weld a 6920 which has a 16" barrel.
