Nice rifle. Very similar to my unfired safe queen. Too many guns and not enough time.

Can't recommend an Aimpoint PRO enough. They're the best for the money in the red-dot category.

I'm curious what issues you had with the eotech overseas.

Where were you? What models were they? How were you issued one?

I ask because I was in OIF with guys using Eotechs in the coldest winter on record (it was 17* in my AO...for a week) and they had no issues.

First hand accounts of problems are rare so if you have one, please share.

In 2007-2009 when I was in Baghdad with Triple Canopy I had 374 (ish) of them in the armory. Approx. 75 of them were kaputt. Everything from battery packs to the contacts on the main housing unit and even a few where the reflective prism popped loose inside the unit. They were all 552 Rev. F series units.

The battery pack locking bar was also damaged on many of them as well. The worst part was the customer service and trying to get them fixed. I think it took me well over 6 months to get them repaired and all repairs had to be done in house after the parts were eventually sent out. The only reason I even got them fixed was due to the assistance of someone at SOCOM who provided me the inside name a former U.S Army Lt. Col who took over one of the depts at L-3. He made things happen when no one else would.

Not the OP, but we had a hard time geting the N cells for them incountry in 2007. The Aimpoint batteries would last the whole deployment most times. That probably saved us from having other issues as we replaced our EOTECHs with M68s.

Google, "eotech lawsuit" it's been proven they have at least some basic issues of holding zero.

Nice rifle, O P. I picked one up myself a few weeks ago. I am very impressed with the quality of the rifle. Particularly, that an inspection card is provided with each gun and obvious evidence the rifle was test fired prior to shipment.

The only odd thing was the semi-auto carrier, but I had another gun with one and never had an issue with it.

LMT definitely can put together a great gun.

P.S. Before you lose the stock sight, I would give it a try first. It is very well made and easier to adjust compared to most other rear iron sights. Plus, they can be difficult to find at times as well. If you don't like it, then you will have no problem selling it.

Also, I agree with Aimpoint pro for an optic. Very practical choice for the rifle.

Deployed to RC North in Afghanistan. I was not issued one, I bought the sight new for a M249 which EOtech claimed it would have no issue working on the saw.
I had a Eotech 552 and after just a few months in country the spring for the batterys contact had lost all tension and would no longer reliably stay on. I rigged it so it would stay on after that with thin cardboard wrapped in foil. Towards the end of the deployment it would no longer hold zero and the sight would drift. I got back and sent it to Eotech for replacement and then sold it as soon as i got it back.

Thanks for the replies. I had heard IGs experience before but I guess I had forgotten.

I don't own any eotechs and hope my post didn't come off confrontational. I'm just always curious about people's experiences.

Not overseas experience, but as a retailer, I have had to return several EOs for warranty work before customers could even take possession.
