Just purchased 16" middie BFH upper from BCM......

.......dead set on grabbing the MOE SL handguard but they're only compatible with ROUND handguard endcaps and BCM just confirmed a triangular one per industry standard. The original MOE worked with BOTH.......Hard to believe Magpul didn't retain that feature. Seems bassakwards to me.....

Obviously, there's a FSP which severely limits my options. Need options to mount a weaponlight and handstop. Wanted to keep it simple, (IE - cheap, lightweight, polymer, streamlined, etc) and have keymod/MLOK functionality.......

Was gonna cancel order but you know them. It packed and shipped in a few short hours.

    Now what? Other options?

    Thanks

You know, this was a real fail on Magpul's part. The MOE handguards fit on triangular handguards. Why did they do this? It would have made sense if Magpul made their own URGs with circular caps, but...?

I would just grab a set of MOEs. The new ones are MLOK compatible and they work just as great as the SLs.
Why do the loudest do the least?

Because the triangle endcap is too wide to fit inside the SL handguard, if the made it wide enough it would no longer be "Slim Line" or it would be bulbous at the end.

Well, BCM recently teased their own drop-in polymer handguards.

I know "Why" they made the SL not compatible with triangular handguard caps. My question was deeper. Why release a "drop-in" plastic handguard that requires gunsmith work and additional parts to install on the most popular variant of AR15 upper receivers?

    Plus they are dreadfully ugly.

My Colt's have round endcaps. Why do FF rail manufacturers not work with the most popular barrel nut? Design considerations dictate compatibility with standard GI parts. Nothing new there. Magpul offers both the MOE and MOE SL and as such offer a solution for both styles of end caps. <shrugs>

Get either the MOE handguards (MLOK), B5 Keymod slim handguards, or wait for BCM's new handguards.
    B5:

Salt in the wound but my SIONICS patrol zero mid length gas upper has round handguard caps. Love the middy MOE-SL on it.

B5 handguards are keymod compatible, however there is technically no attachment method on the 6 O'clock side of the handguard. I have wondered and it does look like the magpul MVG could be attached in the cooling vent.
