Grant is out of stock, Rainier has them in stock for $304 w/o a stock or $316 with a BCM GF Stock, so still a very good price.

Colt LE6920 basic package with collapsible stock, standard handguards, FSB and "carrying handle" - $920.00

    Attachment 36788

    <OR>

Colt LE6920MPS-B that incl. the following - $980.00
    Magpul MOE-SL Handguards
    Magpul MOE-SL Carbine Stock
    Magpul MOE-SL Pistol Grip
    Magpul MOE M-LOK Vertical Grip
Magpul MBUS Gen 2 back-up sight
    Magpul MOE Trigger Guard

    Attachment 36787

It appears everyone likes to dress their ARs out individually, but that is about $150 worth of accessories for and additional $50. If the Magpul stuff is junk, then it doesn't matter, I'll go with the base package.

    Thanks.
Personally I'd drop another $91 over the bottom option and go for the BCM BFH ELW middy w/ KMR-A for $1071 and call it a day.

If the three you listed is all you do have access to, I would go with the Colt as well as others have suggested but, above that, ordering the BCM Lower and buying the upper + Charging Handle and BCG for $69 dollars is definitely a great option. My LGS is selling standard 16" uppers with the 15" KMR rail and BCM Comp for $680. Add a $300 dollar lower and $69 dollar CH/BCG combo then, you have a great proven rifle with a FF rail and mid-length gas system.

The caveat is that you would still need to purchase sights and that would add another $150=$200 roughly to that total.

Either way, from what you are leaning towards, I think either way you go, you're on the right track and will be happy with what you get after all is said and done.

    FNH FN15 1776 (flat top) - $880
    Colt LE6920MPS-B (Magpul furniture) - $980

Is FN $200 better than a Bushmaster?
Is Colt $300 better than an XM15?
Is Colt $100 better than FN?

    If so/not, why?

This will be the one and only AR I'll ever own and don't plan on ever purchasing another one. This weapon will be purely a SHTF go-to. I have experience with Colt M4s, nothing else by way of carbines. Any input is appreciated.

    Thanks,

Of the choices that you have thought about, I say go with the Colt.

In the long run, the value will stay with the Colt compared to the FN and especially the Bushmaster. Have you seen what people pay for Colt lowers?

    Han,

The picture you have posted for your 2nd Colt option (with Magpul furniture) does not match your description of the Magpul components. None of the items pictured are part of the SL line.

    Now to answer your question....

I would definitely go with the Magpul furniture over the other option as I feel it gives you more versatility for add-ons. The hand guards allow for attachments that are compatible with the M-lok system (like light mounts), and the SL buttstock has a QD socket for sling attachment.

Also, I think the SL furniture has a sleek and simple look to it, and I have no use for the carry handle (I run optics).

Magpul makes good stuff and they stand behind their products.

In 2015 I don't see how much good a carry handle will do. Get the Magpul version and have a smaller BUIS instead. I'm not sure why you'd suspect Magpul furniture as being junk but I will admit that I don't like their polymer MBUS. I haven't seen an MBUS PRO so I will withhold my comments on them as they'd be less than helpful.

I'm not crazy about the poly MBUS either, but as you say it is far from junk.

Many use magpul furniture and accy by choice. Any of it that you decide you want to upgrade can be easily sold, especially if FDE.

I use the plain MOE grip by choice, its a personal thing.

If you just have to accesorize up front, then buy the OEM model.

But you don't know what you like yet, so the advice to get a 6920 or 6720 in MOE form is best.

    Brian,

I read through the first few posts and did not need to read much further. You have to realize that M4Carbine is loaded with Colt fanboys. You will get a majority of responses for the Colt. That said, I would be very apprehensive about buying Bushmaster these days. They are not the Bushmasters of old. I would also not hesitate to buy the FN before I would buy the Colt. I like my Colt ARs and I have a few of them, but I am not so stuck up on the Colts that I cannot appreciate other good quality ARs. You hear Colt is mil-spec and FN is not because Colt owns the TDP and FN cannot make commercial AR per the TDP. Well, Colt does not make commercial ARs per the TDP either. Only military grade ARs (M16s, M4s, and M4A1s) are made per the TDP. Both Colt and FN use some mil-spec parts in their ARs, but they cannot be 100% mil-spec because they are only semi-auto commercial version of their military counterparts. They can both have some parts that are made of the materials, machined/forged, and finished to those specs, but that does not make the entire AR mil-spec. When it comes to commercial ARs, as I said, the TDP does not apply. Now, go and make your own decision as to what YOU want to buy. If you want the Bushy, by all means get it. Same goes for the FN or Colt, but do not let anyone tell you what you should buy just because of the name attached to it. Heck, there are other ARs out there for around the same money as the Bushy, and better quality. There are others out there for around the same price or less than the FN and Colt that are every bit as good.

A few years back I had the same question, which rifle to buy? After doing a search on this site the choice was obvious - Colt 6920. Now, if no one has recommended this let me be the first to say Aimpoint.
I expend tremendous amounts of energy and time merely to be normal.
