    Generally speaking, hiding things rarely elevates them to a lawful status.

    Would an unregistered 80% lower then be legal as an sbr?

    What's with all this "registered" stuff?

    Nobody who doesn't live in one of the six shitty states that require you to go register your firearms, or those with transferrable machine guns or SBRs acquired through legal means, is on any "registry" at all...

    80% lowers are a BLOCK OF METAL. They're not a firearm, they are a piece of aluminum and nothing more, under current law.

    Possessing a finished lower that was made from a mold or completed from a block of metal is PERFECTLY LEGAL under current Federal Law, provided that it is not manufactured with the intent to sell it, and is simply for personal use. Putting an upper on that lower with a barrel under 16" is constructing an illegal SBR and a felony. Putting a 16.1" or greater upper on it is constructing a legal rifle and you will get nothing more than a sense of personal satisfaction from being able to do so on your own.

    These stupid polymer lowers don't entice me at all. I trust many things that are polymer to perform every day, but most of them were designed as a polymer part from the ground up. I have no doubt that if the material were strong enough to outperform an aluminum lower built to spec, people would flock to it. Casting plastic is far cheaper than machining metal.

    I figured as much but I thought I'd ask.

    I just thought the idea of it was pretty cool. Wouldn't trust it over an aluminum reciever just wish they'd make a kit to make 1 instead of 5,10, or 15. Cause I would like to try it just don't want to spend almost 400 dollars to try something lol

    You can use an 80% lower for an SBR but you'll still have to go through the NFA process (Form 1) for it. The fact that the SBR is built on an 80% lower doesn't bypass the NFA laws.
    Therefore, using an 80% lower only to register it with the NFA defeats the purpose of an 80% lower, IMO.

    No

    "Firearm" = receiver
    "SBR" = NFA Rifle

    Make your free plastic lower no problem. It's a firearm. Stick a 14" upper on it and now it's an unregistered / untaxed NFA regulated SBR.

    Or you could get a dovetail column mini mill and turn out lowers from raw forgings that cost $19.99/each....
