Pin it and you're G2G as long as it's 16+ inches. If you have an ambi lower it needs to be in a featureless config unless you have an ambi bullet button (which I don't know if there is one on the market).

Please keep us updated! I'm curious how this is going to turn out!

Yes I will keep you guys updated. I'm hoping to pull the trigger on something soon. Im left handed so I will add bullet button to right side. One day I will move out of this ridiculous state and move to Reno or Vegas to get into the nfa game. No more nuetured Ar's then.

Fwiw, the rogtac price after the discount is cheaper than one sold for in the EE.

Fellow Californian. Just bought an SR15 upper on TOS yesterday too

As a left handed rifle shooter (cross dominant) I won't bother to source an SR30 lower since the mag release is good where its at since we need to stick something in there to release the mag. No parts exists to make the other side compliant so it would need to be removed anyway. I am just going to make a Noveske lower I have laying around a "clone", got the trigger guard, ambi selector and rear QD mount on the way. Also trying to find favorable pricing on a Spikes RE since they use the dry film lube on the outside like KAC too. Anyone know of one similar other than Spikes?

There is a vendor on Calguns "GoingQuiet", you've probably already seen this but he has/had a pair of SR30 lowers but he wanted $1500 each for them. There isn't any reason a CA friendly FFL couldn't source and make compliant the lowers at normal prices - assuming they are available - User "audiophil2" on Calguns would absolutely be the guy for this - he runs a very CA friendly FFL in AZ.

At what point is the juice no longer worth the squeeze?

Im no longer a CA resident, but it seems to me the easiest work around would be: Find a CA compliant lower, and just slap what ever upper you want on it?

Of course - but there's always that crowd that wants the highest end ARs on the market. Why buy a compliant lower then try to slap on a bunch of ambi parts when you can get "the original" ambi lower?

OP, I would email Boltcarrier. I know that he did have "plenty" of SR-30 complete lowers a little while back. He had them on sale for $750 - $775 (?).

I put plenty in quotes, because when I spoke with him on the phone he said he had a lot. Also the reason they were discounted. It says they're sold out now, but from talking to him it sounded like KAC was making a lot of them and that he had a lot on order.

I think if any vendor can make it happen it would be Ayan. Operation Parts was also good to deal with, and carries lots of KAC products.

I'm also in CA so I know your pain.
