Chances are pretty good that he's within $50 of Silencershop because of the existence of Silencershop. That's the point. When competition dries up the consumer loses. I can tell you that prior to Silencershop my LGS that carried suppressors would charge 40-50% more across the board. Once word got out people could buy them for much, much, MUCH cheaper they jacked their transfer fee and issued a policy to not accept ANY transfers from Silencershop. They claimed that they were doing something shady and they wouldn't get caught up in their fraud and when I pressed them for further details of course they couldn't produce ANYTHING even remotely close to what they were claiming. To accuse a trusted vendor of defrauding the Feds to make a few bucks is an ugly business move and unethical. I found a private party fella who would do NFA transfers and now I don't give them ANY of my business and it has saved me a ton of money to just buy the cheapest source online for items that I can find.

Silencer Shop is ran by good people.
I know them quite well personally.
They changed the game and some dealers didn't like competition.

This is America, get over it.

They have now moved to a distributor model.

I am on their SOT and check out cans for reviews. I wouldn't partner with shady people.

So SiCo didn't like that they were selling cans from other manufacturers?

I don't think so. Probably something to do with the advertising price. IIRC, that's why Dead Air left.

Maybe so. I just got into the NFA game relatively recently so I can't say for sure...

And changing business relationships and distribution is the way of the world too. I've got no problems with SiShop and will still use them if they've got something my local guy doesn't carry. My local guy is only SiCo, AAC and Surefire while some of the Griffin stuff has really been catching my eye...

Slightly OT... So when SS says they have no shipping and transfer fee. Is that through some arrangement with your local seller? For instance I could choose Green Top which is a large scale shop. I would just buy from SS and go pick up at GT for a $2 NICS fee? Many FFLs here also charge sales tax so I suppose it would be $2 + State Sales Tax. Am I reading this correctly?

My understanding from a local retailer who is now working with SS is that in some cases SS avoids shipping the item at all and simply has the "partner" dealer order from a distributor. SS handles all of the paperwork for you and the dealer is getting some cut of the transaction which reflects the different prices for different dealers who are SS partners.

Now, if you ship to your own local FFL then SS would get it from the distributor and have it sent to that local FFL. They would handle all paperwork IF you paid for them to submit for the Form 4 stamp.

However.... the # of dealers who won't charge to keep a suppressor in jail for you for months is almost zero (in my experience). The cheapest local dealer to me charges $65, most of the other ones charge anywhere from $100-$200 to "hold" an outside suppressor for you even if they don't have to do all of the Form 4 paperwork.

For people who have small class III FFL who won't charge them anything to do it, good deal... but I think a lot of people are unaware that the local dealer wants to make their money too.

It works that way with their Powered By dealers. SS sends the can to the local shop along with a check to cover profit/transfer/etc.

You shouldn't pay anything extra. However, I know some states (WA for example) do collect sales tax. The reality is you should be paying it anyway, when you claim it on your taxes for internet purchases. Everybody does that, right?

When I select Green Top, the prices don't change. I'm going to have to go over there and talk to them one day when Obama hasn't been on tv. Every time he shows his face, you can't get to the gun counter.

That Obsidian 45 for instance shows $645. I'm not sure what GT will show on their price tags but I can find out..

One thing that has held me back are the fees and shipping everyone has wanted in the past. Like you say, it could add another $300, then you have $200stamp.. .the fees end up more than the product.... at least that's what it seemed like to me.

The $2 NICS fee and sales tax are a given. I can deal with that

The price, if you choose a Silencershop partner is all you should pay other than the tax stamp. You would only pay extra if you chose your own FFL. When I did my Saker with silencer shop last year I might have had to pay sales tax on it through my local FFL when I picked it up, can't remember. Another local who works with silencer shop insists you do have to pay sales tax because they are actually ordering the suppressor for you.
