So I bought the new competition 45 and just picked it up last night. I’ll post some pictures as soon as I can, but the bottom line is that this is probably the highest quality production Colt I have seen in over 20 years. It really feels like a custom shop gun.
Everything is super tight and lines up perfectly, the finish is excellent, and the sharp edges I have come to expect from recent Colt’s are gone.
Forget your experiences with Colt over the last decade… It really seems like Colt QC has picked up and this gun has now become my instant favorite.
I’m not a Colt fanboy and don’t normally gush, but for the price I don’t think anything comes close to this gun. I am that impressed!
The only small nit-pick I have is the mainspring housing. Plastic? Still? Really?
Also, for those put off by the blue fiber front sight, it does come with spare green and yellow fibers. I’m going to try it out this weekend with the blue before making any changes.
Grant, any timeline estimate for when you'll have the new Colt Combat Unit listed on your website?

Would like to see some pics of the competition 45 looks pretty attractive, also interested in the LW commander, would jump no a LW full size with a ramped barrel from Colt. I think Springfield is the only one who makes them other than maybe STI. I like Colts offerings really hope they become a contender in the 1911 market again.

Grant.....will you be stocking the new Lightweight Commander? Thanks.
I see Colt STILL has not addressed the awful radius on their thumb safeties. Maybe this year they will at least put a recoil spring in the pistol that will allow it to run with duty ammo.
As far as thumb safeties goes, I just wish it was a forged single sided style like an EGW.
