It was not a typo. I edited the original post and brought the budget down to $10K

You only need 5 unless you're counting ammo.

I think you might be missing the point. I don't want to just buy an off the shelf 16" AR.

DBAL or the likes $1000 or under depending on what you go with
Dual PVS-14's or a single depending on how much is left (You have $7,000 left....)

ETA: Yes I realize you spec'd you wanted a 5.56 rifle, but with that kind of coin, why not 308 in a semi light package...
Because I would also like to build a separate semi automatic sniper rifle in .308 with a 20" barrel. In my opinion two totally different rifles for two different missions.

You could get an MSTN or similar custom build for $3000 and budget the same for optics and accessories. $5000-$6000 will get you a primo rifle, optic, and suppressor. $10,000-$15,000 is way more than you need to spend.

I'm not saying I absolutely have to spend $10K. I was just throwing that number out there to hopefully keep from getting answers like "I'd buy a Bushmaster"

You weren't asking for you, you asked us what WE would do with that change, besides other than saying recce build you didn't give any real details as to what you are trying to accomplish with the rifle and in my experience while nice, there really excel and no real mission well. If I'm spending enough money to buy a car on a rifle it better be designed to do a mission very well, or have a happy switch. Considering I have a recce build that I have less than 3k in with an Acog 15k, or even 10K is just throwing money at hardware thinking that the more you spend the better it will be. Unless you are planning on hitting the powerball at which point I don't care what you do since you at that point have enough money for them to make an AR out of gold and shoot diamond bullets.

Define the mission perimeters, and I am sure there are those here who can give guidance to what to consider since I am sure there are those here who have used recces in actual combat. Otherwise the thread is really kind of pointless in the dream gun circle jerk type of discussion.
