Thank you for the post Renegade04. That's exactly the kind of info I was looking for.

If I'm spending enough money to buy a car on a rifle it better be designed to do a mission very well, or have a happy switch. Considering I have a recce build that I have less than 3k in with an Acog 15k, or even 10K is just throwing money at hardware thinking that the more you spend the better it will be. Unless you are planning on hitting the powerball at which point I don't care what you do since you at that point have enough money for them to make an AR out of gold and shoot diamond bullets.

Define the mission perimeters, and I am sure there are those here who can give guidance to what to consider since I am sure there are those here who have used recces in actual combat. Otherwise the thread is really kind of pointless in the dream gun circle jerk type of discussion.
Please let me clarify. I am asking the good people of this forum for their expert opinion so I can build a rifle of my own. I thought that was kind of implied. What rifles excel at what missions is rather subjective, but since I am no longer actively fighting bad guys I would say it's just going to be range toy. Like I said before I don't have to spend $10K, but I do believe you get what you pay for.

As far as your little jab at my character goes, I have been in actual combat, no I am not a S.E.A.L. so no I didn't use the stereotypical Recce. Oh, and this dream gun, circle jerk type of discussion, perhaps you should start your own pointless thread on that.

    Upper:
KAC 14.5" Mod 1 (URX3.1, dimpled barrel w/ KAC BUIS)
    Raptor charging handle
    Surefire Muzzle Brake
    Surefire SOCOM Mini suppressor
    Kahles K16i 1-6 w/ Bobro QD mount
    Surefire M600u w/ LaRue mount & SR-07

    Lower:
    AX556 SBR'd
    Geissele SSA
VLTOR A5 buffer with green spring spring & A5H2 buffer (H3 was too heavy for weak .223 unsuppressed to always lock the bolt back)
    LWRC ambi QD end plate
    Magpul MOE SL stock
    Magpul K2+ grip
AXTS Talon ambi safety (45 degree)
    Battle Arms ETP

Mine wasn't cheap to build but definitely well under your 10k, also being a 14.5 SBR is more of a "mini RECCE" but that wood be getting real technical. Unfortunately AXTS is not currently selling AX556 lowers, so purchasing one of these lowers second hand will run you around double or more their original price and they were never cheap to begin with.

    Here's a thought.

Perhaps you could offer some parameters, other than just mentioning a price tag? What are you going to do with it? Is it a range toy? Is it a duty weapon? Are you spec'ing something for an agency build? What the climate like where it will be used? Are you going to suppress it? Will you use NOD's with it?

You didn't give folks much to go on, then you got pissed when they started coming up with their own mission statement.

So if you want some worthwhile output, it helps to give useful input.

Thank you for the suggestions. It's just going to be used as a range toy. I would like to be able to run it suppressed as well as not suppressed.

Maybe a kac with custom krieger barrel and kac barrel extension, urx4, and possibly adjustable gas block.

    Svorski 1-6, or kahles.

Giselle trigger, surefire micro, or kac silencer.

Honestly, I'd just buy a kac, kac silencer, throw a top notch scope on there and get a bunch of ammo, training, and compete. Then I'd invest the rest.

10k for a range toy eh?
I really want to quote and second the bushmaster and 40k rounds.

I understand how much money you can have saved up from deployments especially as a single soldier, but I'm still leaning towards troll, fellow VFW or not.

Therefore, Colt 6920, tax stamp, can and ammo. Range toys don't need slings or WMLs.

What is the big deal about using $10K as a maximum budget?

My last deployment was in 2008 and I am happily married. I'm not trying to troll. I am legitimately trying to get some good nformatin from the people on this forum, but so far my experience has been a negative one.

In Internet slang, a troll is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion, often for their own amusement.

I don't think I have done any of those things.

Look, you didn't say anything in your OP about what you wanted to do with it... all you did was give a number and say you want something that, at this point, is largely up to interpretation...

Do you have an accuracy requirement, length requirement, will it be used off a bipod or bags, are you going to actually go past 100 yards or put it through carbine courses. Give some actual use requirements, and we can give you real answers.
