This reminds me of fellow officers or family friends that would want me to spec out the top of the line rifle with the best parts possible for the price range of 3k-4K and I would take a few hours out of the day to explain to them about what each part is for and why it's better than a dpms or bushy and then type up a detailed report with every item they need to purchase with the links and then a week later find out they wasted my time by purchasing a del ton ar.
It gets to a point where people are no longer willing to help.
I now just tell them to Spend several hours of your own time doing your own research.

Thanks, all the time I've spent on m4c has finally amounted to something! It only took a few minutes out of my day to do that post

Now days, I do what I did a couple posts ago. If someone gives me a budget, I'll fill out that budget. I won't explain why, just that every part is chosen for a reason and if you trust my judgement enough to ask me to spec out a rifle, trust my judgement that each component is important. Take it as a package or don't, but don't come back to me when you swap out one thing for something else that's "just as good" and nothing works.

Anddd there it is. Ain't no point in wasting your time. Anyone can see what you chose is legit. No explanation necessary.

When folks start trying to get $200 titanium castle nuts on their list, then they need to essplain.

IMHO folks make this way too hard.

Buy a 6920 or 6720. Put on a midlength stainless match tube from one of dozens mfgs. Put an ALG, KMR or Geisele freefloat on it at the same time. Sell or trade Colt barrel.

Geisele trigger. Swap the stock for a SOPMOD or similar of your choice.

Get one of the excellent scopes already mentioned. (I'd probably go Leopold, but that's just me)

Or buy an LMT complete lower with 2 stage and sopmod stock, then an upper from one of a dozen mfgs with recce configs.

You'd have to work to spend more than $3k, and it'd be diminishing returns.

My family does this constantly with electronics and guns. I used to fall for it.

It's not hard to spend more than $3k when a good barrel runs at least $500, a good optic runs $1500+, and a suppressor is generally at least $1000.

I did exactly this. Bought a 6920 and sold all the components I didn't use. Ended up with a Colt upper, lower, and BCG. Pretty much replaced everything else. Once I dropped a Nightforce optic on top the $3000 mark was a distant memory......I could have built off a billet set for the same money but having a Colt upper, lower, BCG was appealing to me.

Actually, MarkM called him on a pretty much unnecessary five grand in spending in the eighth post.

And that's someone who went and actually built the gun, not someone who's just thrown out a random request with his first post, for a $15K Recce

I had not factored on the can. Or bipod. So revise my statement to be $4100ish.

FYI, the barrel cost is offset by selling the Colt barrel/hider/fsb/nut/Delta ring/handguard (if MOE). I was assuming roughly $300 net for barrel upgrade. Add freefloat tube to that, etc. So my $3k was $1500 for carbine & upgrades. $1500 optic.
