Yeah, it sounded to me in reading that incident that the cheapo holster probably was mostly to blame. I don't know how the guy had it arranged either -- at what height. With a cocked and locked gun I am not sure I would put it between the belt and the belly like alluded to by some people. My smart carry is carried a bit lower.

The Zack is GTG, I bought two. I don't use them in your intended role but as a bedside table holsters, and car console holster.

Just received my CCC Shaggy yesterday made to fit a G17 and I think its a fine solution for AIWB. Even though it is a little thicker than the Raven ACR it seems to tuck the butt of the G19 and G17 very close to the body. Also tried a FSM&P9 and it would work in a pinch.

When I got the holster initially there was a bit of kydex intruding into the frame, trigger guard juncture which seemed to hamper draw speed. I emailed Rich and he called me back within an hour, apologized and promised to make another one. True to his word I had the new holster with modification within two days. I would dare say this level of customer service is fairly unheard of in the holster making business.

Is that the comfort or heat shield backing you got on yours?

    Comfort shield.

I don't normally wear a AIWB without some sort of undershirt but I did today to see how much the comfort shield helped. After doing some yard work and cleaning out the car no chafing or rubbing.

Most AIWB's would benefit from an application of leather or moleskin if you are going to wear against bare skin.

I received my Shaggy yesterday. I was initially impressed by the quality and the construction, both which were at least as good as any I've seen from some of the more well known top of the line holster companies. After ogling the holster, I put it on and proceeded to wear it for he next twelve hours. I can say without reservation that it is the best and most comfortable holster I've ever owned. It is the holster I've been looking for my entire gun toting life. It is the ONLY holster I will ever buy in the future. IMNSHO, it is without a doubt the best AIWB on the market today.

Here are two videos of running the El Pres with an AIWB setup

    Disregard goofy camera man.

These were shot with the CCC looper. I am currently working on a Mag pouch that is also designed for AIWB.

You guys have talked me into buying a CCC Shaggy. Well you and my screaming back after driving to Chattanooga while wearing a conventional IWB holster. If the Shaggy doesn't work out it'll be one more for the "box of holsters"

I've had both the Looper and the Shaggy - while the Looper is very comfortable, the Shaggy is just a little bit better, particularly with the ride height, allowing for a proper grip on the weapon before the draw out of the holster (no shifting needed as it comes up). If the Looper ever breaks, it will be replaced by a Shaggy. That holster is extremely easy to carry and disappears under an untucked polo.

    Rich's handiwork is first rate!

IMO the front centerline is best reserved for weapons. Pistol on one side & a small fixed blade like a TDI or Clinchpick on the other. Reloads, lights, etc are secondary & physiologically I think you'll get a faster & more robust reload out of a hip mounted mag pouch.

From the hip/side you're already running the mag toward centerline & up at an angle (this is all assuming a workspace reload) so your scheme of motion doesn't change much. With an appendix reload it would have to go from a very vertically-biased movement, stop, then move horizontally.

One advantage would be in a one-handed reload though. The spare would be easy to access w/ either hand. I run two support side mags & one shooting side spare though to address that issue. With that I have two mags that I can quickly access one handed regardless of which hand went down.
