    Springfield Armory Combat Operator 9mm

I know there are a bunch of other 9mm 1911 threads going on but this is the first I've seen of this model and can't get many details. My LGS has two coming in tomorrow for $1600. The only thing I can find is from Lipsey's but it's not much.

I saw that GrabAGun has a listing for them as well and was wondering the same thing. It looks nice assuming the picture is correct.

I'm trying to figure out what differentiates a combat operator from a regular one. And what makes it about double the price of the new Operator Range Officer.

It's hard to tell in the pic but it seems like front/rear checkering (obvi) and I think the barrel is flush cut / reverse crowned? Plus no FCS. To me that's enough to to 1380 vs. ~1150 for an MC Operator. The front/rear grip pattern on those seems much less secure, although I've not handled one.

Now, would I pay $1300 over $800 for RO? Not sure on that one.

according to the link above, I see tool steel hammer and sear compared to MIM. the gray lower which is probably similar to Armory Kote compared to parkerize finish. no ILS mainspring housing, bar stock extractor compared to MIM with factory production. G10 grips compared to RO wood. Rear U notch sight compared to two dot Novak. oh yeah….did not see the checkering. Two 10 round CMC mags compared to the two factory 9 rounders.

I ordered the regular production RO OP and still waiting as it has been in Processing since Jan 5, 2016.

I'm not positive but it appears Springfield Armory has pulled the standard Operator out of the commercial production line and moved it into their professional/custom line. If so, the railed RO is taking its place on the standard production line.

If this is the case, what is the difference between the old operator and the new railled range officer. It might be prudent to research this and features/build. The differences I see right now are kinda foggy since I can't recall the standard operators build specs.

Old and new are NM frames +

    The custom shop model includes:

The new one has a custom fit NM threaded barrel
    Custom shop hammer and sear
    Total reliability job
It appear in addition to standard Novak style sights it comes set up with a MRDS (Leupold Delata) as a supressor sight. Other options/sights available.
    Carry bevel
Cerro-Kote which I believe the old standard production model came with.

Best source of what is happening with the operator line is to call SA.

FCS? Nevermind I figured it out... I actually prefer front serrations. And I don't understand why SA doesn't undercut their trigger guards.

I have to agree. I can feel a difference and if Springer would do them to all, my guns would feel the same.
