A .223 Match chamber has a relatively short throat leade angle -- it'll hold tight groups for a long time as throat wear advances but the chamber can be a tight fit. Dirt or dust can possibly slow you down.

A 5.56 chamber is downright "Fat" in the precision world, with a long throat. Not saying you can't get good accuracy out of a .mil barrel but the long throat (starting at 2.500 cartridge overall length) just gets longer from the first shot.

A Wylde chamber is a happy medium. Bill Wylde was a genius to spec a throat length and angle just a skoshi longer than match but shorter than a GI or Colt. Case dimensions are also just a cat whisker more generous for dust, dirt, and heat allowance but not as big as for a .mil.

223 at 600 yards and beyond will just nock the paint off a 1/4" mild steel target just as info so a larger target is cheap. 4" at 600 yards very tough with variable winds forget it. If you can see your trace or misses on a calm day maybe. Go heavy with your bullets. Krieger can't go wrong but WOA are very good also. I have both. Go with a heavy wall upper Vltor MUR, MEGA Arms SBU or DPMS thick walled slick side. 1-8 twist or 1-7. I prefer 223 rem chamber but 223 Wylde is very good and better selection of barrels. Wind will play with you bad with 223 at 600yards. I run a 20" 1-8 twist barrel for the velocity 24" would be better and out to 600 75gr hornady match bullets work ok and there cheap. Past 600 yards I like the 75gr or 80gr Amax bullets they will stay stable threw the stransonic stage of flight. I've taken mine out to 885 yards it is very tough at those ranges with a 223. I build a 6.5 Creedmoor chambered large frame AR and it is way way more fun at those ranges. But 223 can get you to 600 yards with 223 I've shot a few 2.5" five shot groups at 400 yards but I would not say that is the norm it is a lot of fun seeing just what the caliber is capable of

Sinister, I often see the .223 Wylde described that way-- happy medium. That might be one way of putting it but dimensionally it's not a fitting description. It isn't really halfway between .223 Rem / SAAMI-spec and 5.56 NATO, it's a whole different thang.

A .223 match chamber that has .223-ish lengths of freebore and throat, I would call more like ".223 old school match from when everyone was using 52 grain, flat-based bullets".

Say what you want but there is nothing that will give a ton of experience shooting in conditions from different positions
than a season or two competing in NRA Highpower National Match, across the course matches.
I know many will poo poo this notion but there are many who know I am right.

I'm looking at a MUR Upper, Geissele Mk4 15" Rail, WOA 18" SPR Rifle Length barrel in .223 Wylde, BCM BCG/CH.

Should that group of parts give me the best bang for my buck? It's around $1,000 which I consider reasonable for the quality of the parts.

Euro, what about doing a 6.5 grendel? It let's you stay small frame ar, gives you more flexibility at distance. You were planning on a barrel anyway. All you have extra is a bolt, and mags.

223 rounds, even the good ones are kinda BC limited. The slightest wind will screw you. If is gusting, then it's just s guessing game.

6.5 would give you room to grow. Just a thought.
