I'm tempted to buy a hi point just to shoot at it. Only problem is none of the stores I frequent sell
    anything that shitty.

My Hi Point carbine has been reliable.

The handguns aren't usually that awful, either. There are worse, anyway.

Why anyone would join a forum about them, however, is beyond me.

How about we bring this back to the original discussion and leave out the Harbor Freight, HiPoint and other nonsense.

You can't argue with people who don't understand "professional grade" with regard to tools.

I just had a saw installed in one of my work centers that cost 6 grand. It is used, without breaks, for ten hour shifts, 4 up to 7 days a week...depending on the time of year. It replaced one that was ten years old, that had done the same duty. For ten years solid. They don't sell it at harbor freight.

My department costs just over $8.50 per minute to operate. We don't care for downtime. To include "borrowing" another guys tools.

Haters will always hate. You probably will not get them to change their mind. You can also ask said individual who claims company A makes company B's stuff when company A was founded. Some how I doubt that a johnny come lately is building Colts parts.

You can be less strict with your maintenance without creating malfunctions, and you'll probably have more flexibility of loads and accuracy. But none of that is going to be a big deal to casual shooter.

If you're doing carbine courses once or twice a year and putting thousands of rounds downrange, an extra grand for the rifle isn't that much of your budget. I'm not saying cheaper guns are just as good, but they are perfect fine for casual use. I used my Oly Arms to get used to using a red dot sight before I deployed with one. It never gave me issues except with MK262 ammo, but I wouldn't have taken it to the sandbox either.
I understand all that. In fact, I have a self-build that uses a Bushmaster barrel assembly. The FSB is drilled off-center, and I had to futz around with it to get the sights to align reasonably near the center (Bushmaster customer service refused to admit something was wrong). But it's a range tool only - nothing for serious work - and I knew the risk I was taking when I ordered the parts, so it functions fine for the limited purposes I put it through. However, the thread is about guys who claim, "Windham makes better ARs than Colt, DD etc. And a few of us are better educated than most on how to build a AR. Mil spec is just a standard which all those companies meet unless noted on certain parts or AR builds. It ain't rocket science. You go ahead and pay for the name only. Just what I know." Those claims are not correct, and when put to the test are proven so.
