Think the most ridiculous thing I've heard buy someone regarding parts was that Taurus makes parts for KAC... I couldn't believe it and yes the owner had a Hi-Point.

Here is my thought (s) on this - this is typical of how quite a few people seem to think about quite a few things. On this forum, most are informed enough to spot this behavior as it relates to guns, and ARs specifically, but they then fail to see the same logic and reason regarding other products. The reality is, if you read it or heard it somewhere, then you have NO opinion worth voicing, period. Either educate yourself about the product being discussed (and no the media is not a valid source of information), or kindly read along and keep your uneducated opinion to yourself. Regurgitating misinformation is one of the most common exercises of the internet commando

Are you talking about quotes made in this thread, or about hotels from the other?

I didn't form my opinions on cheap guns through the media brother...

Now, I can't speak to SS's library hobo stance.

Nope I wasn't speaking of specifics, but that is one instance of the same thing, and so was the whole fireclean fiasco. The general populace does get much of their gun knowledge from the media, and that was what I was referring to. Opinions on many things are based simply on something someone heard, or read, but actually have no real world knowledge on. I can give you all my real world knowledge on bushmasters, del-tons, olympic arms, dpms...here goes, I heard they are all pretty much bottom of the barrel in regards to ARs, but I have never shot, handled, or worked on any of those. My real world opinion on those rifles is exactly nothing. Do I have an opinion? Sure, but not one that carries any weight, so it is best left in my head and not posted. All I am saying is, we will get better info, and more accurate opinions, if those that have no REAL WORLD DATA, keep their opinions to themselves (less garbage to sift through to reach the real info).

They talk about their HiPoints like we talk about KACs. It's really something to see. Fascinating how people reassure each other about their purchases and assimilate into a community based around them.
I wonder how their torture tests go ..

I agree with wct097 on the tool comparison. My son is a master mechanic at a large dealership, and has told me a good percentage of mechanics buy high end tools as a status symbol, even when they go heavily into debt to do so. When discussing buying something with my wife, she invariably asks is it a want or a need. Going into debt for a want is, well.........stupid. Staying out of debt is the opposite of foolish.

The others he buys at Harbor Freight, and when they break he gets a new one for free.
    .
Who cares if you get a new one, you can't make money with broken shit.

I don't buy Snap-On because of status, I buy it because it is better engineered, made of better steel, last longer, and made thinner but still stronger. I started out with craftsman crap, but quickly realized I can't be a professional with crap. Now have over 100K in Snap-On, and it is not for status, cause status don't make you money.

You are right, you can't make money with broken shit. You borrow what you need from the other guys until your lunch hour.

If you are that invested in Snap-On you know they have hundreds of different tools. You should also know a certain percent is top tier, while a good percentage of their stuff isn't any better than a lot of other companies.

P.S.- A super big, super expensive box doesn't make you money either.

Like a lot of you guys, I have tried to explain the difference with Colt. But seems, no one's listened.

Wifes nephew said I soon as I mentioned I built a AR with a Colt upper for my Dad. "He doesn't like Colt, they jam."

    I stopped, didn't bother.

Mil spec is just a standard which all those companies meet unless noted on certain parts or AR builds. It ain't rocket science. You go ahead and pay for the name only. Just what I know."

    Your thoughts?

P.S. From what I gathered the above came about as a result of a poster referring to Bushmaster, Del Ton, DPMS as 2nd and 3rd tier AR's.
I see this kind of thing all the time and have given up trying to discuss the issue. It always turns into an argument where the term "fanboy" becomes a favorite word.

Some people can't be reasoned with because they won't be reasoned with. Instead, I now ask, "Have you every taken your XYZ through a carbine course?" The answer, if one is given, is always, "No." Then I say, "Please do, and give us a report when you come back." There's never a report. The readers who are interested in learning will probably take the hint. The rest will probably buy what they had already planned to buy and feel pretty happy with themselves. And world keeps turning.
