    Barrett REC 7 DI

I just got back from a distributor show, and was looking at the new DI gun from Barrett. The rifle feels great, and seems well built. However, I noticed that the gas system was VERY short. Does anybody have any information on this? I didn't measure it, but it appears to be almost pistol length. The rifle I was looking at was chambered in 5.56 NATO.

We had another post on this at some point, wait no, it was a piston thread.

I believe the "standard" REC 7 (which i cant remember whom actually mentioned it ) adv the single piece piston system was a bid to the US Military for the Enhanced Carbine program.

Here's a video for the "military" model.

The DI will, i hope, have much better price point. Would love picking up either DI or their new single piece rod piston to try as an upper only.

Looks like there is a little info on their website. I have a Gen 1 Rec 7, and although its heavy, its super accurate and very reliable. I have about 4000 rounds through it and my bcg looks like it just came off the production line.

It looks like they are doing a 300 blackout and 6.8 in the DI model as well. Price list shows $1899 for all models.

I was more asking about the short length of the gas system. It seems very short for a 5.56 16" carbine.

Are you positive it was a 556 gun and not a 300blk? That might explain the short gas system.

Good intro video. Looks like competent people doing the assembly & fitting - using torque limiting wrenches (except on the flash hider install, which I liked the way they did that as well), alignment fixtures, and applying lubricant / grease to the action parts and barrel threads.

I haven't been able to find much information about the Barret REC7. Piston ARs are no in my future purchasing plans, but I am curious to see/hear info/feedback.
I see that Barrett, LWRC, PWS and POF are now doing DI ARs, and of course DI makers like LMT and Colt have done piston ARs.

I own a REC7 DI. def one of the best rifle purchases ive ever made. the gas tube measures about 10.25" from the back of the gas block to where it ends in the upper. of course i was being lazy and didnt take the upper off.
