No time frame on buying one. I can throw an aimpoint comp m4s on it temporally, or one of my extra 1-6 optics for the time being. Or just use irons for that matter. I'm not in a hurry to spend 2k on something I may not want in the long run.
This is exactly what I plan on doing. I heard from a reliable source that NF has already produced a 1-8, but hasn't been introduced to the public yet. From what I was told it sounds very promising.

I already have many CQB type SBRs and other rifles for 0-300 yards with 1-6x optics, etc, etc. For this specific rifle I highly doubt I will be shooting it shorter then 50 and longer then 5-600 ever. I would explore a 1-8x but I did not care for the USO 1-8 I had and sold that off. CQBSS is not in the budget. Would like to try to get 10x and don't want much more. Thought about a Mark 6 for a short amount of time, both in 1-6 and 3-18. Keep getting pushed back to the NF.

Anything else I should consider before jumping on the NF? Or someone with experience with this 2.5-10x42 on a 308 in a short to mid range platform?

    Thanks in advance.
I have a GAP-10 that fulfills a role for me much like you. I have a NF ATACR 4-16. Aside from my long range scopes it is my favorite by far. I also have a truck frankin gun AR-10 with a Burris 2-10. the 4-16 is FFP. I don't want a FFP on a 1-6 (or 8). The 4-16 will allow a higher level of precision and should you push out past 550 you will be glad for the extra magnification.

One other note, if you have the range and can shoot to 500-600 regularly I think you will find it rather boring. I regularly pound a 2.5 inch disk at 500 with my 6.5 Creedmoor bolt gun. If you can shoot at longer distances you will.

Now that everyone has my mind going a million miles an hour about optics for this thing... what other 3-15, 4-16 optics are ones to look at. .1 mils and some sort of mil illuminated reticle. I have used a Steiner m5xi 3-15 and really liked the glass and the MSR illuminated reticle. Peaking more interest in the ATACR.. Probably could bump up a little and swing something in the $2,750 range if needed. Just looking for more opinions. The comment above about wishing you had an aimpoint, or more mag, got me thinking..

    Would be my first choices

If you can deal with the weight:

Would be at the top of the list for value

    All sitting in a:

    Or

About the only way I would go for that application. All can be found used at pretty good savings if you search and are patient. A used $3K scope is better than a new $1900 one and both cost the same.

Do you have any first hand experience with the Tangent Theta. I officially know ZERO end users of that optic. Looks promising and I like the reticle. Seems that would be a solid choice. I have opportunity to pick up a unmounted Steiner m5xi 3-15 for $1,800. Seems like a pretty good opportunity.

I have already given my mount choice to Geissele with their new Super Precision 2099 offering. If I wanted a QD, I agree on the Bobro. I have many of their mounts and they are on the top of list.

I am not a fan of quick disconnect mounts except for RDS on AR's. I would reconsider using regular scope rings for this project. They are lower cost, lighter weight and can offer you more flexibility in your mount. Seekins, Badger Ordance, and NF are all good choices.

I think a good one piece bolt on mount such as KAC, Geissele, NF will be perfect for this application. The QD mounts have there place and this rifle is not getting one. If it was a bolt rifle I would go with a set of badger or seekins rings. Have both on bolt rifles. Good stuff.

The TT is the only one on the list I don't have hands on experince with. Considering its of premier linage and everyone who buys one is ravings about them, I feel confident recomending it. The 5-25 TT I got to shoot was absolutely stunning and is at the top of the heap in optics IMO. IF I had the means, I would replace all my LR optics with TT.
