    1911 gen info help

I got an offer from a local to trade my EOTech straight across for a Colt 1911. I know this is a steal...Well I think it is. Actually I know very little about 1911's and I'm hoping someone here could inform me on what to look out for when I go to trade for his gun.

What I do know is there are some brands of 1911's that aren't colt parts compitable, like the llama... What other brands should I be sure to avoid?

Any pointers would be most appreciated thanks.

I'm meeting him somewhat soon so I don't have time to do all the research, I'm looking for some straight forward advice...

With some many Colt 1911 models more info is necessary as well as condition of the weapon.

Is it a COLT or not? your statements seem conflicting.

look up 1911, 1911a1, series 70, series 80. this would give you a basic rundown of what has been offered in the majority of COLT production. try to get the serial number first, then use this link to find out what it is, then try to find some kind of value. no-one here could give you any sort of real help with the info you provided. i'm assuming that he's not trading a $1000 COLT for a $250-300 Eotech.

    great info, txs.

What brands aren't compitable with Colt 1911 parts like the llama?

The guy is at work and im in the process of getting more info out of him. In his email he says it is a Colt .45 1911 and that is it. He mentions he is current active duty military and needs nv capability asap which is why he is giving me such a good deal. He mentions it is valued at $700 which makes me think it is a knock-off 1911 or whatever because every 1911 I have ever seen started at $950 at minimum.

If it is a colt brand 1911, Is it safe to trade no matter what? assuming it isn't broken... I would assume any colt 1911 is worth more than an EOTech right?

EOTech is 552.A65 w/ accucam and lens covers (600+ invested)

basicly I wanna upgrade it in the future and I wanna make sure it can accept the bulk of upgrades

it just seems/feels like you don't know if you're getting a 1911 or a COLT1911. otherwise, why all the questions about which brands to stay away from? a Colt is a Colt. there were alot of models made by Colt, but they are still Colts. Everyone and their brother makes a 1911 nowadays
