Rust prevention is probably the last thing I worry about when looking at lube.

I can appreciate the info for what it is, and it's a decent test, but it doesn't rain inside my safe. If my gun gets wet, it gets dried and re lubed when I get home.

They do, and they are hydrocarbons, and when they burn and break down, lots of different organic compounds are produced, not the kind of stuff you want to breathe in or have on your skin for extended periods.

The MSDS for Mobil 1 states there are no health hazards with virgin motor oil. Motor oil becomes hazardous when exposed to the processes (fuel dilution, etc) in a combustion chamber.

You probably have a way lower assumed risk using fresh synthetic engine lubricant than shooting an oil-wet gun with corrosive ammo, and God knows what all gnarlies that powder is chock full of!

Some import primers in ammunition contain things that I would prefer not to breathe as well.
What's in the oil may not be as much of a primary concern as some other things, but still a valid concern.
