After reviewing the Cole-Tec and Manta sites, it appears their offerings are more dedicated to eliminating heat mirage. The HAD cover does that just as well while allowing high rates of fire without any damage to the core or outer cover.

The Cole Tac HTP is a high temp variant.(3000° internal wrap & 1800° exterior) But I'm not sure that any of these will hold up to serious abuse. No matter what the internal materials, heat transfer through to the Cordura cover will destroy it.

I've decided I'll be ordering a Cole-tac for the Saker. Will reserve the HAD when I get a dedicated can for my 5.56 guns.

If you're buying a cover for slung rifle skin/gear protection after a mag dump you need a different cover. The hi temp covers have glass/blend hi temp filled cores that will hold up to 3000.
A mag dump happens in about 3 seconds, this was over the course of a minute with only 20 rounds. Same shot every 3 seconds tempo I would shoot my precision varmint gun at a active prairie dog town, which is what this cover was bought for. From their website...

Guess they got that one wrong! I have used the Cole Tac Python with metal hardware for about 6 months. I don't push my luck with it, but I can tell you that it would have zero issues with the rate of fire you're describing

"The newest cover from Cole-TAC, the High Temperature Python (HTP) Suppressor Cover. We had several customers asking for a cover that they could use and let loose on. The outer shell is the popular Metal Python Suppressor Cover with the BOA and the inner tube is rated to 3000°F. This cover will not slip or shift around on your can."

"Our products are meant to be in rough environments and have been tested in most. If something fails, we want to know and make it right. Through our testing, we also know what the limitations are. With regards to the suppressor covers, they are designed for long range shooting at moderate firing tempos. They are not meant to withstand rapid firing from semi-auto firearms. "

I saw the video of the Cole Tac melting. It took 200 rounds of back to back mag dumps, but it failed. In the Rifles Only video they stop when I think damage would start occuring. Both covers seem really nice and would work for reasonable use. But there are videos of the Manta guys taking blow torches to their suppressor covers. Also in a 3rd party test where they took temperature readings, it appeared to, actually help the suppressor cool. These points and the endorsement by F2S are the reasons I went with the Manta.

I tried one of these on my Surefire 7.62 RC for a while. I didn't have that growth effect like you you describe. However, last time I was out with my SPR, I was noticing that I was getting these weird bursts of mirage. Was shooting for groups at 100m in 45ish degree weather, and the mirage would periodically flare up to the point that I had to wait in order to shoot. Finally I got annoyed with it and took the cover off. Not only did the bursts of mirage go away, but it also reduced the POI shift from the unsuppressed POA. So now I've said '**** it' and left that thing off my cans. Not sure what to do with it now.
