Kahles k16i auto shut off feature and non locking diopter

I am in the process of acquiring a Kahles K16i with sm1 reticle for a multi-purpose carbine build. Out of all of the 1-6 variables I have tried, the k16i has been my favorite.

I like the clarity, sm1 reticle, brightness, and field of view.

My concern is that if this scope has a 4 hour auto shut off feature like he Swarovski z6i, it would not work for my application as this is not intended to be a gaming gun, more of a fighting gun.

Could any one who owns or has access to one of these scopes tell me if it indeed does have an auto shut off feature ?

The only other concern I have is that it does not have a locking diopter. Has this been an issue for any users ?

You don't think that sometime within that 240 minutes of doing whatever with your firearm you can't spare 30-seconds to twist a little knob back and forth one detent?

With daylight visible stadia, I'd have thought that the only pressing need for the illuminated ring was early morning or late evening action.

What is the battery life? I don't imagine it's long enough that you want to leave it on for years. Like dude-man said, in four hours, you'll likely find a spare second or two to adjust the settings to avoid shutoff, even in a gunfight.

I've never used that scope but I think you've made a great choice narrowing it down to that. I would gladly trade up to that scope from what I currently use (MK6, which I think is a wonderful scope). I might actually save some pennies and sell mine off to get one like you. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

The battery life is 34 hours of daylight brightness and 340 hours on low setting.

The concern is more about the auto off feature being triggered when the rifle is vertical or sideways. In the process of researching this optic, I found a thread pertaining to this optic and it mentioned an auto shut off feature that triggers when the scope is tilted in a position which simulates being on its side. I believe this feature is called swarolight on the z6i.

On the Swarovski z6i this feature can be disabled by pressing and holding the + and - buttons together until the reticle blinks twice from my understanding. The Kahles k16i has a dial for brightness so I'm unsure if this is a feature that can be disabled.

This could be wrong, and I'm hoping it is, but I wanted to check on here to confirm with those who may possibly own one of these.

I've had a little bit of time shooting with this optic between 200 yards and 500 yards at steel after a local match.

No experience with your question re: auto shut-off. However, the sm-1 reticle is readily useable without illumination. Even if your illumination went down, you will still be able to pick up the reticle and make hits.

Run time is 34 hours total on the brightest setting and 350 hours on the lowest setting. Here is a link to a review of the scope. http://www.westernshooter.com/2014/0...m1-review.html

For those who have had time behind this optic, have you had to adjust the diopter when going from 1x to 6x magnification to get a clear picture of the reticle and also the target ?

I am reading on a competition oriented site that this was something that was commonly experienced with the k16i as well as the Trijicon VCOG.

It definitely doesn't turn off when it's side ways. I'm 99% sure there is no auto shut off feature, then again I've never left mine on when I'm not using it & battery life appears pretty damn good (it also holds a spare battery in the windage cap).

That is very helpful, thank you. I'm glad to hear that shooting from unconventional positions won't turn off the illumination.

Have you noticed that you need to adjust the diopter when going from 1x to 6x magnification ?

I haven't noticed the need to mess with the diopter when changing magnification, glass appear clear at both 1x & 6x. I do remember it took me a little bit to figure out the sweet spot for the diopter adjustments when I first bought the scope but once I did I haven't messed with it, YMMV.
