What to carry is kind of like asking, "Where do I invest my money?"

In both cases, you have to determine your comfort with risk and evaluate your options from there.

If you think you will never need more than 6 rounds, then a revolver is a good option for you. You can live with the risk of not needing more than that. You are comfortable with the odds of never needing more.

If you are not comfortable with only six rounds, you can carry something else, and etc. etc. etc.

These conversations are kind of pointless in a way since each person must make his/her own very personal decision based on factors only you can determine for yourself. Nobody else can tell you what will make you feel confidence and secure in your given situation.

I shoot them well, but I also shoot Glocks well. I just prefer to carry a 1911 most days. I have a 1/2 dozen ranging from Wilson Combat to Colt and SA.

Me too. I had an SA Pro, SA TRP, and a Les Baer Premier II. I had the SA TRP re-worked by Teddy Jacobsen in Sugarland, TX with all tool steel parts and his trigger job. It has been flawless ever since. The Baer and the Pro stovepiped so they were sold.

Given good ammo and the right lube [not Frog lube IMO] I would trust my Colt .38 super as a carry piece. But I carry something smaller and lighter with the same ammo capacity.

I've carried quite a few different guns Glock,Hk,Sig,1911's. For me carrying an 1911 is not a big deal. I'm 6'6 and the size or weight makes no difference to me. I carry a Nighthawk 5" right now while not cheap it places the rounds where you point the sights which gives me some piece of mind. Not saying a Glock,Sig or Hk are inaccurate but If I ever have to use one for defense I want it to hit where I aim while under pressure.

Ran my Wilson through a Hackathorn Advanced Shooter's course yesterday. I sort of felt like I was cheating. I saw lots of guns choke (Glocks, Beretta, even a Les Baer...I am sure more did(my J-frame pulled the crimp on some blazer and jammed up)) but my 1911 soldiered on perfectly. I even ran it through the low light portion (tritium front) with my Surefire Backup light and I was able to keep up with the weapons mounted crowd and shoot accurately.

As long as your 1911 runs I really don't think there is anything better. And it was fun to listen to all the discussions about what extractor/ejector/mag/spring to get...to get your Glock to run right. That used to be what 1911 folks talked about!

I think I have finally passed over the hump into old-coot where I am just going to carry a 1911 and a J-frame and let all my other guns rust in the safe. Nah!
If you aren't armed when you take a dump in your own home then your opinion on what is a practical daily carry weapon isn't interesting to me.

    !
I wish I had time to inspect your Wilson and maybe throw it in the dirt and stomp on it a few times

FYI, my Wilson Beretta (your old gun) ran perfectly.

The Beretta M9A1 that "choked" was due to operator's error, his grip was so high that his support thumb kept pushing the slide stop up.

The Les Baer choked on handloads that were out of specs. The shooter loaded a batch of ammo with new style bullets to him and he didn't measure the OAL of the cartridge, we think the rounds were too long.

As for the Glocks choking, there were various issues. LOL. Since I don't give a flip about those guns, I didn't investigate their issues.

My J frames and Shield ran perfectly. That was the first time I shot any J frame in any class (I've shot K frames before). I think the three of us who brought our own J's validated our reasons for carrying them and now have much more confidence in shooting them under stress. Makes me want to get another one, I already have three).

If you have to put a compensator on a 9mm, maybe you should buy panties instead of briefs - Ken Hackathorn via Facebook live

I'm about to find out for you Koshinn. I just bought a Marauder that I plan to carry once I run some rounds through it and see what's up. I'm not worried about the size as its not much bigger than what I normally have.

FWIW I carry either a full size Nighthawk GRP or a G17 both with an X300U daily. Both I carry with a reload, more than anything just in case of a malfunction if Murphy and his law show up. I have a suspicion once shots are fired, it won't matter the round count... all you'll see are asses and elbows from people running.

Bottom line is carry what you feel confident in. In my case these 2 pistols have been on dead nuts reliable...

If you can carry it safely, it is reliable and you can hit well with it...I'd say whatever you are carrying is "relevant."

There is probably some Cowboy Action Shooter out there that can conceal carry a Ruger Blackhawk and amaze you with how well he can hit with the thing.

I don't consider anything "outdated" if it is reliable and you can hit well with it.
