I don't have either but I do have 2 accupoints 1-4 and a leupold mark AR 1.5-4, the glass is clearer on the accupoints, I can't imagine the glass being different in the accupower. My mark AR has the green fire dot spr reticle and it's nice but I don't see it being a good one for holdovers. I would go for the trijicon if I were you.

I've had both and prefer the Accupower. I still have the Trijicon but the Leupold is gone. I prefer the Trijicon for most of the same reasons already mentioned. Better glass and true 1X top the list. The Leupold is a good scope for the price though.

The Leupold Mark AR has less expensive glass and lens coatings so that is not an accurate comparison to the VX-R Patrol that the OP is asking about. The VX-R has the matched index lens system with Diamondcoat vs the Mark AR's multicoat 4 with glass comparable to the budget VX-1 series of hunting scopes. The Trijicon may have better glass or it may not. I have not used either so I don't know, but you are basing your advice on a completely different and less expensive Leupold optic.

Yeah, you can't compare the VXR Patrol with the Mark AR.
I own a couple of VXRs and have shot/looked through the Mark ARs side by side.

I'd like to see the proof of this as well. If it cannot be provided, maybe Leupold could be shown primus' post and asked about his statements so that we can get an accurate answer from the manufacturer.

It no secret. Go over to the hide or any optic centric site and its talked about at length.

See why they don't/Can't put made in the USA on most of their products. See where they source a large portion of their parts from.

Hey I know someone who works for WWP and thinks they are the greatest organization ever. Just because she works/worked there, doesn't mean they know whats going on. Does the guy doing IT or cleaning the urinals know trade secrets, designs or the true bottom line?

And good luck as far as getting a 'Murican company to admit to such things. Most of them do it to some extent, even Vortex puts heavy black stickers over Made in China so the customer doesn't see it readily. I'm sure their PR person is going to let know you know where and how the sausage is made.....

If the AccuPower series glass on the 1-4x glass is anything like the 3-9x then that is what I'd get. I've had a lot of time behind the AccuPower 3-9x40, and I'm still amazed by the clarity every time I take it out. I'm considering the 1-4x as a replacement, especially if the green BDC reticle is as daylight bright as some claim.

My friend has one. He claims it's daylight bright, but we're in different states so I haven't had a chance to look through it.

I personally have had two, both green segmented. Neither were anywhere near daylight bright.

FWIW, as far as the OP. Same friend has PST 1-4, leupold firedot and the Accupower. He prefers the Accupower.

Well, that is good to know. The Accupower looks to be a great option for a low power variable without costing an arm and a leg. I've pretty much settled on the Accupower at this point, just can't decide on reticle color...

There was talk on the hide and the campfire a few years back, however, Leupold actually answered the questions regarding the labeling.

Essentially, they can no longer mark them all as "made in USA" because some of the components are from overseas. Things like glass and some of the raw materials. However, at the time of the controversy, Leupold also stated that everything was built in the USA, and everything is made in Beaverton, Oregon.

So they are not "made in China" as you stated.

As for the original question, I believe the Trijicon is a better optic. I have two of the VX-R Patrols, 1 of the 1.25-4x, and the 3-9x. They are good optics, but the illumination setup is absolutely stupid, and I wish there was capped turrets on the 1.25-4x. I'm okay on the reticle on the 1.25-4x, since the first hash is 2.5mils. When zero'd for 100, most of the ammo I use hits 2.4-2.7 mils low at 400 yards.
