VLTOR A5 vs. H Buffer and heavy spring, is one better?

I recently saw Vuurwapanwhatshisname's video on the A5 system, and I'm really close to switching over to them. I was hoping someone with a lot more technical expertise than I have could tell me a little more.

My question is how is the A5 system better than an H buffer of comparable weight along with a springco heavy carbine spring. It seems to me that both would accomplish the same thing, but then again, why would Vltor bother making the A5 if that were true.

    Thanks.

At this point, I only run A5. But, honestly, it's probably more personal preference than anything. The advantage is not really the weight of the buffer so much as the compression rate of the spring. The A5 uses a rifle length spring, which has a smoother compression.

There are several excellent A5 threads already on the site with lots of good information.

That actually makes sense. Thanks. Now if Magpul would make a UBR with an A5 length tube I would be a happy camper.

How does it work with both? Is there an insert that reduces the length for a carbine buffer?

That's exactly how it will work. Same concept as the spacer for the JP Silent Capture system

The other difference in the A5 system is the use of a spring internal to the buffer. They say it helps keep the weights forward for more consistency during the initial movement of the buffer aft, and then helps bolt bounce at the other end of the cycle.

From the M4C Vltor A5 thread, SinlesSorrow's pic:

But yes, the A5 has been discussed for years on here with lots of good info available. I have not jumped on the Sprinco Green bandwagon yet, the standard milspec rifle spring works fine. That said, its only $20 so I am sure I will try the Sprinco down the road.

I'm salivating for a UBR gen2 with an A5 H2 buffer and a springco green. Summer seems so far away...
