I ride road and mtb, probably 90% of my riding is on the rode. There are lots of good 2 lane roads near my house, where as good mtb riding is an hour drive away. I love both though, and certainly don't look down on mtb'rs. My dad taught me that anything on two wheels is fun.

I'm currently recovering from an appendectomy, so I haven't ridden nearly as much as I would like. Hope to start back up in a couple more weeks. Gonna be slow as hell though lol

Had my first road rage incident last week. Scumbag in a new Camero started screaming at me that I "cut him off"; he came from behind me, so that was not the case. I mean he was in full-blown RAGE made; after screaming at me he roared off, then circled the block for another go. I really thought he was going to fight me, and I wondered how that would go, since I was wearing clip shoes...

    Cyclist here!!
My passion is MTB but road can be fun with the right group (hammer fest) and it's also necessary when trails are wet/underwater.

Have done many endurance races 6h, 60-100 miles on my MTB
    It's my main hobby

I raced some Mtn, mostly road for 12 years. Made many trips to the E.R., saw many friends injured and had one friend who was run over and killed by a delivery truck. My passion was racing on the road, but that came to an end when I was hit by a Jeep Cherokee one week before my first childs first birthday. As I laid in the road looking at a little picture of my son that I had taped to the top tube of my crushed Cannondale I quickly analyzed what my priorities were.

When i recovered from that, I sold everything bike related that I had and never looked back. I used some of the money to buy my first AR.

My friend owns the shop so they were my first "sponsor" and kept me supplied with Cannondale bikes. I broke several of them in my tenure and got to be tight with the rep who traded out my frames and sent them to the R&D guys.

I loved my time on the road, but now when I see guys riding in traffic it upsets me. I suppose its because I dont want them to get hurt. Drivers are just way too distracted today. I wish it wasn't that way because one day I'd like to return, but i don't see the number of things distracting drivers going down any time soon.

Road is dangerous for sure and I agree with you. It's safer somewhat if you ride with a big group (cycling club).
If I was you I would look into cyclocross bikes. You can compete in cyclocross or do gravel grinders away from roads
    Cheers

Yup, I ride only mountain bikes, although my mileage is evenly split between road and mountain. I do have some good fun chasing serious guys on road bikes with my comparatively cheap hardtail on mountain tires.

A 150mm travel FS 29er (31lb of monster truck) - Rocky Mountain Instinct 950 that only has the stock frame and grouppo
and A 130mm fork HT 29er - Diamondback Overdrive Carbon Sport same deal that I've changed everything but the drivetrain and brake levers

I'm totally new to Strava, but according to that I'm a top quartile rider everywhere I go despite being fat and out of shape. This is everything from White Mesa and Otero Canyon Downhill to the pace of nerds in spandex riding on the road nearby)

Curiously, I manage to replicate my same hardware tendencies with AR's and 1911's with bikes.

Ditto. That said, with being a broke grad student at the moment, it's almost reversed just because I can't afford to do much other than bleed off stashed ammunition as it gets too old.

    Nice ride!

I bet there are great places to ride all over NM. I have ridden Big Bend and around El Paso and love desert riding.

I am going to go to a 27.5 or 29'er when I cannot find parts for my old 26" bike anymore. Last year's search for a new fork almost brought me to it! It was very hard to find a 26" fork that also fits a straight 1 1/8" thread-less headset and is of decent quality. Tires and other small components I can find...it is the bigger things that get hard but patience and lots of searching on e-bay and Amazon and I can still find lots of components for a 26" MTB.

I always tell people that want to lose weight....get a mt bike and follow me around in the summer. Riding when it is 95 degrees and 95% humidity around here will work you out and sweat all the pounds away! LOL

With my eating habits (...and love of craft beer) I know the mt bike is the only thing keeping me thin.

Hey cyclist, do any weight training during On or Off season? How's it worked out for you in your riding?

I have no "seasons". I lift and cycle year round. No problems at all. In fact, if programmed correctly, they complement each other.

Take a look at Alex Viada if you need further convincing that cycling has no detrimental effect on strength training!
