Again, not opinion, it's called fact and has been proven and admitted to by EOTech themselves. Apparently some can't seem to grasp that fact.

Many (most?) people won't experience any of the issues that have been highlighted recently. But still, it's possible that you might, right? So what's the point? Why not just get the Aimpoint and not worry about it? I don't think the reticle or FOV matter as far as perceived advantages for the EOTech go. It's an RDS -- talking about FOV barely makes sense. If you absolutely can't consistently get centered behind an Aimpoint Micro then there's the M4, but really that perceived deficiency can be corrected with training IMO.

Moreover, have you ever interacted with Aimpoint customer service? They're shockingly good. They've sent me stuff for free that I should've paid for. They literally refused money to the point that it was awkward for me. I can't think of another company where that's happened. That's something that happens with friends, not companies / customers. My advice is to go with the reliable product with reliable customer service.

I experienced the reticle fade on my EOTech 512. My sons XPS-2 had it way worse than mine plus his was draining batts with no use in a few months. Between the 3 we had that's a 66% failure rate. I'm glad they came out with the buyback. I replaced the 2 of mine with 3 Holosun 515c units and am impressed with these RD sights. I liked the EOTech circle-dot reticle and wanted something like it and The 500 series Holosuns had it. The reticle is also clearer than the Eotech. You can also select dot only if you don't want the circle. I first tried a Lucid HD-7 gen3 but it was big and heavy but well made. I missed the circle dot so I gave it to my son. He loves it.

i can only recommend the xps. i have to qualify that this is not the one i used.

i used the 512 for about 4 years. various iterations of the same sight, the one with the hollowed out battery compartment rail section as well as the older battery compartments that hugged the rail. the ones with the extra spring and grommet set up and the ones without.

the xps solves all those fixes in one design.

i have also experienced the reticle fade multiple times. the older the sight, the more likely this will occur. it has to do with the inert gas escaping and i guess based on the literature from eotech, moisture invading the sight. most people will not have this issue, as most of the sights aren't even kept on a rifle for long enough. for those who do use the sight for years, if this happens, you just send it back and they get you another one. i am a proponent of having spares and this is not a deal breaker to me. if you buy a newer sight (xps as recommended, this will not be an issue according to eotech.)

i am aware of the zero shift issue. i have even experienced it. most people will not ever be in an environment where that happens. additionally, most people do not properly zero their guns or periodically check their guns for maintained zero.

for a serious user, the eotech is still a very desirable sighting option. it is rugged and easy to use. if there is consternation about the zero shift, in every sof account i've ever read, serious users verify zero regularly. i had that wake up call when i myself experienced zero shift. the take away is not that eotechs suck. the take away should be that people need to constantly verify zero. doesn't matter if it's an aimpoint or an eotech, or those iron sights that you never use, but maintain on the rifle because everyone on the internet said you needed them.

if it is the opinion that hard use gear is gear you bet your life on, this sentiment is totally undermined by procedures or lack of procedures that maintain the readiness of that gear.

I don't understand where you are coming from. Who wants a sight that needs multiple spares for sending the bad ones in and each sight constantly needs to be checked for zero? Yes EOTech is trash from my experience and I have never needed to do the maintenance you talk about on any of my sights especially iron sights. They are iron for a reason and people have them not because the internet said to have them but because these people have common sense. Also it doesn't matter which HWS model you have they all have problems.

I don't need the cost of Aimpoint. The Holosun 515cs and503c work just as good for me and have the EOTech circle dot.

Well, I'll just say this. Sometimes cliches are true.

This is a great post, but it misses the fundamental flaw with guys whos sole experience shooting guns centers around video games.

FOV on a red dot...lmao...but people make a big deal about it!
