I remember doing research on them before I bought mine from HKParts.net and it seems that most of them were like new - mine certainly was - although some of them had goo left over from duct tape, some of them had duct tape over the pressure pad, and some of them had the finish worn off the top of the bezel (worn off by the muzzle blast of however many thousands of 9mm rounds sent down range).
Thanks, I will keep that in mind.

The dilemma is whether to keep it classy with the Surefire 628 or go rail/MLOK and attach a Streamlight Rail Mount 1 Arisaka 45* mount combo. If the latter, I'm always able to move it around to other platforms. The cost is nearly the same considering the addition of the Malkoff head.

Thinking about trying one of each style magazine: OEM German 30rnd curved magazine, used 30rnd straight and one 4th gen KCI magazine.

This range toy is quickly creeping into KAC SR-15 territory!

Edit: Would be fantastic if Magpul released a MOE MLOK handguard.. I've decided against the Surefire 628 setup because of the possible wobble issue and the fact that the light won't be interchangeable with another platform.

Now, HKparts.net MLOK or DTAC MLOK rail?

That is a removable section of the mold for making different selector markings.

Also, if you're with the "proper sheen" crowd or the "weld microscopy" crew, you're probably on the wrong site.

I went classic. But at the time, the surplus 628 was the cheapest way to get a weapon light on my Z-5. The incandescent isn't nearly as bright as an LED, obviously, but it's still plenty useful. I only replaced it with the Malkoff this year.

But I'm also kinda-sorta aiming to replicate a Politi- og lensmannsetaten (Norwegian Police Service) MP5, to go with the P30L that I... don't have any more.

Such a classic look, I've seen so many deployed in public throughout my travels in the EU. For current prices of the 628 forearms, it's not so cost effective once you slap the Malkoff head on there. The most budget friendly option would've been to drill/mount a MOE section with an x300.

Dakota Tactical has a 30% off sale for their rails, anyone have any experience with their gear?

It isn't so cost effective, but at the time I wasn't going to do the Malkoff as I had a line on a SureFire LED conversion for a great price. But I never got around to doing it and when I went to get one this year, they'd been discontinued.

I'm running a VCAS with an HK-hook up front. If I were going to do it over, I might replace the HK hook with a Blue Force Gear Uloop.

(In the photo, it looks like they're running single-point bungie-type slings. If that's what you're asking about.)

As far as DakTac, I don't have any experience with them, nor do I know anyone who does, but they appear to have a solid enough reputation that H&K seems to like sharing their photos on FaceBook.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Could my issue be ammo related? I was using Winchester 115gr.

I'm using Winchester White Box 115 gr., unless I'm running suppressed and then I'm using Winchester White Box 147 gr. I suspect your problem is AR related. You are used to the reset on AR rifles (assuming) and are having difficulty transitioning to HK triggers.

I grew up with 91s and 93s so the trigger is normal to me. With the zero recoil of the MP5 / 94 it gets even easier for me. Some people have similar issues if they go from ARs to AKs and I hear many complain about going to AUGs.

But if you had competition shooters who are used to glass rod breaks on their 0.75 lb trigger they'd probably cry all day about how much stock AR triggers suck. I know going the other way can be tricky, if I'm not paying attention and I'm using some custom match bolt rifle I've ND'd a round downrange before I was ready and just trying to get settled in. It's the same thing, I just have to spend more time with that particular trigger and adjust.

I can shoot just about anything well enough to be "ok." I remember doing double with my Ruger Security Six as a kid. Even though I was only loaded with .38s it was hard to put two in the middle of the black someplace with two long ass trigger pulls. But eventually I got the whole thing together and could do smooth double even if they weren't quite "rapid."

I only have one gun in my collection that I absolutely cannot do any form of advanced shooting with and that is my HK VP70, but I have it more for my reference collection than as a shooter. It really is an awful trigger, makes a Glock seem like a dream gun.

Typically I pair my SIG P226 with my MP5 and I have never had a problem going from the trigger reset on one to the trigger reset on the other even during transition drills where we are doubling the handgun and then doubling the MP5 or vice versa.

I went with a Proctor sling as they're lightweight and folds up tidy for storage.

Ended up buying the Dakota Tactical MLOK rail ($121 shipped), Streamlight Rail Mount 1 + Arisaka Offset MLOK mount for illumination. It's not classy like the Surefire handguards unfortunately. It was a toss up between the B&T 10266 or the MFI low profile mount; went with the MFI for the extra 1913 slots but the support claws get in the way of most mounts so I'm stuck using the one in the center. I had the ARMS #31 mount on the H1 but it was too long so I'm using the stock Aimpoint low mount with the quick release lever. It's EXTREMELY awkward to get a cheek weld and properly see the irons so the Aimpoint is a necessity for this type of pistol configuration.

Yes using that SB brace will not give you a comfortable experience using irons. But I think with other mounts to adapt an ar15 tube and maybe with a blade type brace would be a better option if others don't want to run a reddot
