    Recommend lights for G19

Sorry been down for a long while due to injuries. Haven't been keeping up.

Have had the Procyon XT1 on the G19's, been very happy with it for home use, including the switch mechanism. My thoughts now are to upgrade to a higher lumen output (XT1 +125 LM), mainly for indoor blinding effect (small condo).

Of course the first option to come up is the Surefire X300 Ultra (500 LU). Two thoughts on the Surefire:

    - Is 500 LU workable or too bright in an 800 sq foot unit?
    - Anyone bothered by its overall length on a G19?

Not trained for it, so not looking for a laser combo.

    edit:
There's also the Streamlight TLR-1, which can be had with strobe. Is strobe not useful with the new higher powered (Surefire) lights?

I recommend a light which will also have the best chance of a holster being made for your G19 and light, just in case you want to carry it with light attached.
For lights, I've only tried a few and have:
    Streamlight TLR-1
Streamlight TLR-1HL (has a strobe function)
Surefire X300 (discontinued, may be hard to find now)
    Surefire X300U

The increased brightness on the newer models is fine for my older eyes.
I'm not bothered by the light extending past the G19, but I'll usually have the lights on a 1911, SIG, or G17. The top of my lights all show some powder burns on their tops.
I don't usually use the strobe. I suppose if I actually encounter someone and need to give that person some orders/direction, while they're at gunpoint, I might use the strobe if I'm using my TLR-1HL, the only one I have with the strobe feature.

I use 600 lumen X300U-B's, and I don't find them too bright for inside. I'm not all about having the sun on the end of the gun, but it's not been problematic in my use.*And no problem with it on a 19 for a bedside gun, though if I had to accommodate it in my CCW setup, I would leave the whole thing at home a lot. That's just me, lots of people carry one daily, but I would be using an XC-1 if I had to carry it. Not a good thrower, but that 200 lumens does a great job of filling a room. Nothing wrong at all with it on an HD handgun.

And I personally wouldn't use strobe even if I had it.

If I was going to carry it, surefire xc1 looks great.

I do not like strobe funtions, I flash the light as I see fit manually. The strobe is a pain to try to activate reliably on the tlr1, would be especially under stress, imo.

    Thanks for the responses.

To tell the truth the strobe has never been recommended personally, but it *seemed* to make sense as an element for disorientation. I've tried in-domicile drills from dead asleep, and it showed no handicaps or disadvantages. Need to do some research on that.

I've actually been looking for less lumens in my pistol WML. The XC1 isn't too far off.

I find 300+ lumens is too much back splash in close quarters, blinding the target is all well and good but blinding myself is counterproductive. 100 lumens is plenty for threat ID inside of 30m especially indoors.

Never found myself in a situation where I would have considered using a disco light versus commands followed by trigger pulls.

I have a TRL-1 on my Glock 19. Plenty of places stock them and I've had zero issues finding them.

If you're worried about the lumens of an X300U, I'd get an XC1. If you want to carry your G19 with a light, I'd get the XC1. In fact, I'd say that if you're going to carry your G19, you should get an XC1, it's so unobtrusive, that I feel like the advice to "buy a G19 and a Colt LE6920" should be changed to "buy a G19 with an XC1 and a Colt LE6920".

    But I'm a SureFire whore.

I agree completely...there should just be a "starter gun package" that's a G19 w/ Warren Sights, an XC1 and a Raven Holster...That would have saved me thousands of dollars. I've done an X300u and X400 on a G19 and it's just too big (IMHO)...both excellent lights, but the XC1 is perfect.
