These old pricks make me want to vomit.

I had some cocksucker come absolutely UNGLUED on me and a buddy for using MDC-1200 one time. Ham radio is 50% M4C-types, and 50% those dudes who got beat down mercilessly, constantly, in high-school.

I've almost completely abandoned 2m/440 for local Comms, and only do digital on those bands. The digital world has a much better cool-dude-to-prick-ratio.

The will turn you in if they track you down... Yes, they do stuff like that. Many are very protective of their hobby.

    Will,

With the BF-888S, you will want to download: http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Download to program them.

They come from the factory with pre-set foreign frequencies that are all up in the Public Safety and Federal Weather Satellite reporting frequency band in-CONUS.

Since you're not interested in licensing, if you want maximum performance you want a CB radio with SSB (Single Side-band). That's the cat's ass, and the bee's knees for anything unlicensed.

Will that limit range due to competition with those frequencies?

Thanx. I have the Baofeng BF-888S for now. Wish I'd heard about the CB handhelds.

Negative, but it would be illegal to operate on the frequencies provided by the factory, unless there was immediate danger to life or property.

    No worries, dude. Order this:

    http://www.amazon.com/Baofeng-Progra.../dp/B008RZJHJU

When that shows up, let me know, and I'll help you out.

    Download this (free):

    http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Download (programming software).

The problem with international equipment, is that the frequencies available differ from country-to-country.

Issue with above is, i don't have a CD drive on my comps (so late 2015!) and is that Mac compatible? I saw discussions on Windows 7 vs 8 and such for programming.
