Well we don't know what he thinks. But to some degree I do believe once he became a politician he did adopt alternate political views to coincide with the platform he wants to put forward and believes will be successful.

Now I don't for a minute think he even knows what "NFA weapon" means even though he has declared himself "pro second amendment." But I also don't actually believe if elected he is going to go "HA...POWNED I'm BANNING ASSAULT WEAPONS...SHOULD HAVE VOTED FOR HILLARY NEWBTARDS!!!!!!!!!"

I think he will generally be pro gun. I think he will generally try to address the problem of illegal immigration. I think he will do every thing he can to improve the economy.

Do I think he will strike the sporter clause? Doubt it. I'd be surprised if he even knew what it was. Do I think he will build a giant wall, with a moat and a minefield? Doubt it, but I think he will make being illegal in this country much harder and I think he will actively enforce border security. Is he going to be able to ban Muslims from entering the country from places known to be hostile to the US? Don't think he will be able to legally do so, but I think he is going to attempt to put something in place that works better than the "doing nothing significant" that we are currently doing.

If the only thing he manages to accomplish is to find common cause with Russia and work with Putin to decide on "areas of influence" and work together to stop destabilizing secular states in the middle east and take us back off a Cold War posture with the other major nuclear power in the world, that would be accomplishment enough.

That was actually Reagan's major contribution, the walking back of the Cold War to a safer, saner posture without capitulating like Carter. And if Trump managed to do only that, it would be greater than anything Obama ever did or anything Hillary would ever do.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.

My hypothesis is that he is not even pretending to be conservative and that is based not on a conspiracy, but on the stupid crap that comes out of his mouth. Case in point, he just went on O'Reily and called for an increase in the federal minimum wage to $10/hr, and encouraged states to use that as a baseline to build higher minimum local minimums. http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tr...rticle/2597805

Gee, that a great idea when we have rather shitting U6 unemployment.

Then there is his healthcare plan for the poor and people on exchanges that will cost hundreds of billions per year. Oh, don't forget his refusal to address Medicare and Social Security shortfalls. To top it all off, we have his campaign finance chair and supposed pick for Treas Sec who is an ex-Goldman liberal.

    Yeah, paleoconservative my hairy ass.

It should be painfully obvious that Trump is now running to the left in an attempt to snatch-up disaffected Bernie supporters. This is what happens when you nominate someone who will say anything, and take on any position, no matter how contrary to their previous statements, in a futile attempt to get votes from a few socialist dumbasses.

Even if Trump does go 180 degrees and goes ultra leftist, he still has a million miles to go before he reaches as far left as Hillary. Sadly, the unknown with Trump is just a better option than the known evil that is another Clinton. This crazy bitch is just a disaster on every single point, every one. You'd have to be pretty damn awful to be worse.

You know, I'm in my late 40s and would like to, just once, vote for someone I really like versus the one I hate the least.
"Why "zombies"? Because calling it 'training to stop a rioting, starving, panicking, desperate mob after a complete governmental financial collapse apocalypse' is just too wordy." or in light of current events: "training to stop a rioting, looting, molotov cocktail throwing, skinny jeans wearing, uneducated bunch of lemmings duped by, or working directly for, a marxist organization attempting to tear down America while hiding behind a race-based name"

More interesting polling data coming in. It seems both GOP and Dem voters have low opinions of their choices.

"Trump's convention has improved views of him on three of the four presidential qualities in the poll, but majorities still see him as unprepared for the presidency (58 percent), not honest (56 percent), and lacking the temperament and personality to be president (61 percent). Most voters -- 56 percent -- continue to see him as a strong leader; those views have not changed since May."

"Hillary Clinton heads into her convention in a better position than Trump on some qualities, but still facing deficits. Half of voters see her as having the right temperament, being prepared for the presidency, and as a strong leader. But two in three voters continue to think she is not honest and trustworthy -- just 29 percent saying that she is trustworthy."

That 29% apparently spent no time actually looking into her behavior.

There's a schism within the GOP party to be sure, but it seems worse within the Dem party from what I'm seeing.

Thanks for the response. I hope that this is what passes.

Which of course is par for the course with virtually all politicians - at least those who wish to actually get elected - and that's OK by me. I just wish more people would admit that's the case vs "Well, he changed his mind" type responses which is cognitive dissonance personified. I like your take on the Putin potential.

I don't every see Russia being a reliable ally or even a stabilizing force in the near future. Putin has 1 goal which is to return Russian influence as close to Soviet era levels as possible. He blames the West for much of his country's problems and believes that Russian progress was greatest when it was in direct competition with the West. That is why is his willing to make his entire female Olympic squad look like something out of a Hanz and Franz skit; he wants to embarrass us at every angle. This email release was another example of him demonstrating his control.

One last point. Putin didn't get to where his is without putting more than his fair share of people in the grave. The guy doesn't play by any set of rules.
