    What are your thoughts fellas?

Powdered metal buffers actually work worse than solid weights. Slow motion footage shows they exhibit more bolt bounce than their similarly weighted solid counter parts.

    - I'm a fan of how quiet they are

The Spike's tungsten powder buffers are garbage as has been covered on these forums multiple times. Standard buffer construction is far superior.
-I guess I haven't ran across any of those threads.

    I was unaware of this.
So I guess the general consensus is that it's prolly not a good idea to make the A5 buffer into a powered buffer and I should just stick with the solid weights.

This is why I love this place, i can just ask a question and get knowledgable answers from people all around the world without having to go through the painful trial and error process.

    Thanks guys.

If I were buying my first A5 setup today I would buy it with the A5H4 buffer. The A5H4 has 4 tungsten weights. With 4 steel weights you can mix and match to make any of the 5 weights Vltor sells. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than buying multiple buffers.

    Good to know.

I'm using an A5 system on a 10.5" w/ A5H3 buffer. A lot of guys have suggested an A4 if it will see minimal suppressor use. With that being said, A5 w/A5H3 buffer is probably a great starting point for you.

I have a BCM intermediate (same thing) on my 16" mid-length using an A5H2 buffer. Both rifles cycle reliably with various types of ammo but I mainly shoot M193 clones.

Since the A5H2 is working absolutely fine (frankly could probably go heavier) on a 16", its probably too light for an 11.5". Like I said, I'd probably start with an A5H3.

I'm using an A5H3 w/ OEM spring in my 11.5" BCM. For the most part, I only shoot my reloads, which are pretty mild. Temps vary anywhere from single digits to 90s. Both suppressed & unsuppressed but mostly suppressed nowadays.

I am running an A5H3 with the BCM A5 kit with a Green Sprinco spring on an 11.5 BCM ELW upper. I ran the A5H4 with no issues and then I swapped out my BCG for one of the Gemtech Suppressed Bolt Carriers which is a little bit lighter than a mil spec carrier and gun ran a little slow so I swapped out the A5H4 for the H3 and it runs like a champ. Super smooth!

I haven't messed with heavier weights, as the standard A5H2 seems to work well with everything.

The supplied spring works, but seems a tad sluggish at times. A slightly stronger spring is probably a good idea.

I've been running a 11.5 factory BCM upper w/ a Vltor A5H4 (Green spring) and it runs 100% with a Surefire SOCOM and unsuppressed with mostly Wolf Gold (which is listed as .223 but more like a weak M193 5.56). I'm also using a LMT Enhanced Carrier (standard bolt) if that matters.
