    That rule is aimed at people like me who own a 338 Lapua Magnum, or even worse a 50 bmg. City ranges suck. Its one of the best things about where I live. One range that is free.....and I will not go to it. Another range thats just outside of town that goes to 500 yards. Then finally a private range with steel targets out to 1400 yards and all the wind you could ever want to shoot in.

    Their restriction really should be based on performance, such as penetration/max distance/energy/etc.

    Most 5.56 will pit steel worse than most .308, and a 45-70 rifle will be crushed by .308 in most pertinent aspects.

    A more knowledgeable staff and customer base would necessitate a revision of those prohibitions.
    Was thinking the same thing. So I can't lob .45 Colt but I can shoot 5.56 caliber laser beams?
