It's a little poetic license on my part. Some manufacturers make a good aluminum body and stuff it with the latest spring & follower and are good to go. Some mags were made with good bodies but needed the followers updated the MagPul anti tilt type. Some mags have good followers & springs, but had flaws to the body that impacted fit, form & function.
Adding to this confusion were the various followers introduced by the Army plus the different colors for different generations of followers and trying to remember which colors were good and which needed to be turned in. There was even a ditty published in the Army comic book for maintenance tips to help you remember what those colors were.
Instead of trying to remember and track the latest changes, it's easier just to grab a PMag in sand at what capacity I wanted- 20, 30 or, my personal favorite, 40 rounds.
Both style mags have their pluses & minuses. The guy that started this thread asked problem the new plastic mags actually solve. For me, PMags simplify mag choice by eliminating the info dump needed to ensure one is choosing a good aluminum mag

Pmags advertise when they're non-functional, USGI mags w/slightly bent feed lips do not. Pmags don't get as hot to the touch in sunlight as USGI and I find Pmags easier to grasp/manipulate when reloading(YMMV).
I have loaded Lancers put back for "serious social use" and use Gen2 Pmags for range mags, but if all I could get were USGI mags, I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

This is good advise, I've had nothing but excellent reliability using NHMTG, Okay and D&H (BCM branded) USGI mags. That said my Gen2 and Gen3 Magpul PMags have been flawless except for one Gen2 which suffered a cracked spine from neglect. Either way which every you prefer these threads get beat to death all the time and if your using quality mags, like mentioned above you should have nothing to worry about.
All the failures I've had with issued or personal ARs have been with issued, beat up USGI mags. From my experiences I only trust USGI if they are retrofitted with Magpul followers, and even then they are my designated backup mags or potential currency if AWB 3.0 comes. PMAGs and Lancers are my go to AR mags. Lightweight, durable, can hold 30 rds and seat properly on a closed bolt, and if they do crack or get out of spec I can visually see it. With Lancers especially I love the translucent body and though I'm never worried about polymer feedlips like many seem to be, its steel feedlips do provide added durability. With USGI I had ones that wouldn't drop free or even fit in a magwell and couldn't find anything visually wrong with them. Same thing if I get double feeds or stovepipes. I've mentioned it before in past threads but even NIB from the armory tan follower USGI mags gave me double feeds, and because of the tan follower being a non backwards compatible, reverse hump POS, waste of taxpayers dollars when Magpul has proven anti-tilt followers available already I refuse to use them to this day.

There's been more variations of Pmags in the past 8 years than there ever have been with real g.i. mags. Nothing you posted up there makes any sense and you don't have a clue what you're talking about. Quit spreading nonsense. They upgraded the followers from black to green, from green to tan. That's it in over 40 years and you can't wrap your head around that??

I'm curious about the elander comment and experience as I've found the steel Grendel ones to be solid. The steel 5.56 ones were very dimensionally accurate, but I have less experience with them.
But head and shoulders above c products, asc, and even some better name mags in construction.
The only negative direct experience I've heard was in some early batches of the steel 5.56, which the company replaced under warranty.
As an aside, I still have a surplus Colt marked 20 round from VN era, still running strong with orig follower.
