Look at H4895 for both calibers, I've also found some good loads recently in 6.5 G and 6.5CM with it.
GET IN YOUR BUBBLE!
Not a ton of reloading experience, but I use IMR 4895 (Not the same as H4895) for .308 and can’t remember it smelling bad.
I’ve never loaded .223 but think I am going to start this summer. I will start with 55 grain bullets and have some IMR 4895 and Varget on hand and the Lyman Manual lists both powders for .223 with Varget as the ideal powder for .223. I have yet to use any of the Varget.
Lyman Manual calls for a starting load for H335 at 24.3. Load heavier and give that a try.

Is this what you are talking about smelly powder???

Sorry.... I couldn't resist.
But you may try Ramshot TAC and see if its clean enough for you. Its not as smoky or flashy and meters well and will work for both 223 and 308.
