Thank you guys for the tip and feedback!

We will update the instructions on the back of the LDFA packaging.

I have got the FA firmly stuck (after the roll pin was installed) many times, each time I was like "WTF" lol. Having stopped the pin from being pushed out by the spring with a punch first, then pushing the FA in a little further in while driving the pin in is the way to go. Each time I've either done just that by myself, or if a helper is around to do it for me, the FA would go in easily.

26 Inf, thank you very much! We're doing our part for the community that's done so much for us, it's a pleasure to be of service to folks in general, it's a duty and obligation to help our customers

When installing the FA I use a small allen key inserted from below to hold the FA in position while I tap the roll pin in from the top. This keeps the FA aligned and the key just drops out the bottom as the roll pin seats. No need for a third hand.

Everybody has their favorite method to install a forward assist. What I do may not be perfect but it works for me.

1_ Check the upper and roll pin for burs or any deformities.

2_ Put a drop of oil on the roll pin and get it started into the upper just enough for it to stay in place. (I use a starter punch.)

3_ Correctly orient the FA and insert into the upper and press it in with your middle finger while holding the roll pin punch between your index finger and thumb. (A roll pin punch works much better than a flat punch at this point.)

4_ Lightly tap it into place stopping just before you drive it in all the way.

5_ I finish it off using a flat punch and a small piece of plastic cut from a 1 gallon water bottle. (This helps to protect the finish on the upper.)

Please let me know if you'd like a LDFA to T&E It's a good companion for an ambi charging handle (for which it was designed) roger@forwardcontrolsdesign.com

A new LDFA has been sent to OP as replacement for the dinged up LDFA, even though the dings don't affect its functions and invisible once it's installed, the burs created by the roll pin impacts could cause the FA's back and forth motion to be bumpy, so it's better to replace it for good measure.

I just installed three of these FA in around 15 minutes, no problems at all. For me, having the right tools make a big difference . In my case a study vice, an upper receiver holder, a 3/32 roll pin holder and a 3/32 roll pin starter punch. Easy install with nothing boogered up.

Thanks for posting that, now I don't have to take pics. That is exactly how I teach it in my classes.

    Installing the Forward Assist

So I finally got some more time to mess around with it just now. The LDFA that I had been trying to install kept twisting while I was hammering the pin in. This happened while I had a punch through the other side and with my wife physically holding the FA to try and prevent the twisting. I tried about 8 times - hit the roll pin holder twice and try the FA, it would be locked up so I'd back the pin out and try again. Finally I gave up and went to the new LDFA that I was going to put on my other AR. Went right in, no issues, just like when I reinstalled the standard FA after giving up last time. I'm not sure what was going on with that one, but it works great now.

Here's the original LDFA that I tried installing, along with some of the shards that the roll pin took off.

For those sitting on the fence about IG's armorer class, that is a huge value add. You actually get to see the tools being used, and HOW they are used.

When you compare the price of the class versus the cost of buggerifying a upper build, it's a real easy decision to make.
