    This is likely a tendonitis - inflammation of the tendon insertion onto the epicondyle.

    If this is the case, it has nothing to do with the joint. Therefore, cartilage would not be affected.

    One injection may actually completely resolve the issue.

    I am not 100% up and up on WHERE injections for this type of thing go. Would it be near, or inside the tendon, or...? I simply know that I am not a fan of steroids in joints based on literature and other professional's experience with them.

    This does not cause any issues like injection into the joint? Sports-injuries are not my forte, by and large, nor is outpatient stuff.

    In terms of localized complications, steroid injections can cause tendon rupture. However, I'm not sure how common that is from a single injection.

    I'm 54. Been lifting continuously since 15. Try:

    Different exercises and grips.

    Close grip bench are great.

    Stretch before and after.

    Wear an elbow compression sleeve.

    Be proactive about anti inflammatory.
