    Cleaning and Lubrication Help Please

I recently picked up some Hoppe’s #9 solvent to give my rifle/BCG a good through cleaning. After using the solvent I applied CLP and Gunslick for lubrication. The combo did not work well. My upper and BCG got all gunked up (no I did not run it wet), with the fouling/carbon/dirt sticking together. Consequently, I have read that using solvents and CLP will cause this. Anyone else had this issue before? How to people feel about using a lube like Gunslick (on the parts that get a lot of wear: BCG, bore, CH) after cleaning the rifle with CLP?

I have never had any problems with just CLP.

So, that's all I ever use....

You combined several different cleaners/chemicals which led to the interaction. I've great results with Fireclean, Froglube, Slip2000, and even Hoppes 9 with their Gun Oil.

Before moving to something else give it a thorough degreasing with some non chlorinated brake cleaner.

I figured the issue was created by to using to many different products and not understanding how they interact. Thanks for the advice. I will need to pick up some degreaser.

FYI- I have some a frog lube I can part with (my gunsmith talked me out of using it) shoot me a msg if your looking to pick some up

I clean the BCG with mineral spirits.

Spray out the upper with break cleaner.

Run a few patches down the bore with some copper solvent.

Lube with Slip 2000 (I've used CLP extensively in the past with no issues, but prefer non-carcinogenic)

As previously recommended, clean everything really well with non-chlorinated brake cleaner, keep your Frog Lube and use it.

Something ive discovered recently is soaking in gasoline. Thus far ive only tried it with roller lock weapons but it seems to get all the crud off real well. Afterwards, lube well and done.

    I highly discourage this.

Would you please let us know where to send flowers to your funeral?
