    $1k Optic Rec's for Colt MARC AR-901

I'm looking for recommendations on a good $1k or under optic for a Colt MARC AR-901 16s. This is the model that does not have the monolithic upper. I have Troy iron sights for it, but I'm open to suggestions for a standalone optic, as well.

    Thanks for your input.

Do you want a magnified optic or non-mag?

Magnified, preferably something usable within 100 yards, also.

    Thanks

    Correct me if I am wrong guys. Isn't the 901 a 308?

So, let's narrow it down a bit more. There is quite a difference in utility between something like a 1-4,5,or 6 and something like a 3-12. Both are usable within a 100 yds but their speed of use inside a hundy is quite different. Also a fixed power was mentioned.

Thanks all, I definitely should've been more specific. This is a .308 gun. I'm looking for something 1-1.5x4-6, probably. I'd like something that, at its lowest power, is usable like an unmagnified optic, if that's possible.

A LPV will never handle like a red dot even if it is a true 1 power optic. They are different animals. If I had a 308 AR I'd probably do a fixed 10X and either offset irons or offset MRD. A LPV ends up being 1 or 4 power anyway. The variable feature is pretty much useless and it takes a long time to change.

I wouldn't quite agree with this. I use my LPV at 2-2.5 for medium range targets quite a bit.....but then my eyes are getting kind of old. With a zoom lever changing power is quite fast. But then you have to want a zoom lever for your uses. To the OP it's my opinion that a 1X is faster up close than a 1.5X. Also are you trying to keep weight down or does it matter? Having a separate optic then adding offsets does add a bit of weight.

If a LPV is your game, a Leupold VX-6 is quite nice. Jesse Tischauser (usually in the competition forum) can get you a 10% off coupon from Optics Planet which puts it at $990.
