Can a KMR-A be installed from the rear?

I am building a 14.5 pinned and welded carbine with an A2 fsb. I'm wondering if I can put a KMR barrel nut (but not the actual handguard) on the barrel before sending it to be welded, then push the KMR-A onto the barrel from the rear to install it, that is, slide the KMR's whole length over the barrel nut from the rear. Of course I can't install it from the front due to the FSB.

My favorite handguard Cerakoter is down for a few months and I want to get the welding done now.

No need to waste your time reminding me that the 1.2 inches saved over a 16 barrel isn't worth it, that the heat will hurt the barrel (which has already seen 1000F if it was tempered to Rc35), that I won't be able to clean my muzzle device, etc., etc. Of course if you have time to waste, feel free.

No, has to be from the front, send the whole rail system with the parts when you pin/weld

Cannot be done. Your pin and weld build idea is bad for a few other good reasons, but I wont waste anyone's time on those either.

I have a 14.5 upper with a Geissele MK1 and a battle comp. I built it myself and I will tell you that I should have went with a 16 inch.

Can't change rails, can't change gas block, ruins your muzzle device. Just over all sound better on paper then in real life.

If the rifle isn't going to be running until your Cerakote guy is back online why are you pushing the pin and weld? BTW... The one and a half inches isn't worth it.

I personally don't see an issue with the pin/weld if op is set on it

    I have a 13.7 with a m249 pinned.13"Kmr with a pinned bcm lo gas block.

I love the setup and don't foresee changing it

I would carefully choose if your going to want a long rail at some point, though the a2 can be shaved down afterwards with the pinned setup

Thank you for your answer to the question. Is there some obstruction in the KMR-A that prevents the barrel nut from travelling through the rail front to rear, or is the nut too big to enter the front of the rail in the first place?

Floated handguards are attached to the reciever from the barrel nut. It's a tight fit, you will understand quickly why when you install. YOUTUBE KMR installations or any free float for that idea

There is no way to install from the back and You may even need a rubber mallet to tap in the rail the correct way

The only system that will get you what your looking for is the Daniel defense 2pc omega

Thanks again. It looks like my build will take an extra month to complete.

Yes, the ID of the tube is smaller forward of where it fits on the barrel nut, so the rear part can slide over, but the front part cannot.
